I need some cam info please.
Hi yall im new on this site. I've got a ? about a Comp cam that i purchased some time ago for a .030 350 sbc, that has KB flat top's, a set of World Product S/R torquer head's with the 76cc chamber's, that will have .030 milled off. The block's had .020 decked off and should produce around 9.0:1 C/R. The cam is the High Energy 268 from Comp, with a (.454 lift)(.218 @50) with a 1500 to 5500 rpm range. The intake is the Edelbrock peformer EPS along with a Edelbrock #1405 600cfm carb. The motor's go'in in my 1976 GMC 1/2 ton short bed pickup, that will be lowerd a bit, The truck weigh's around 3,900 lbs. and will also have a saginaw 3 speed tranny, and 3.40 rear gear's. The ? is, is the cam ok for this application. The truck will be a daily driver street truck that i hope to have will have a nice sound at idle. So if anyone know's how the 268H will fare (Please Advise)

I'm not sure what you mean about just a hint of lope, does that mean i'll bearlly be able to tell there's a cam in there? Im just want the kind of exhaust note that sound good thru a set of flow master muffler's. This cam that i have has'nt even been broken in yet because it's still on the engine stand.

I believe what Tech means is it won't idle smooth, it will cut up/lope some at idle, people will know it's a little warmed up, as for me I think you picked correctly for your app, the biggest mistake people make is over camming, you should have great low/mid range torque with it.Objects in the mirror are losing

I agree with everyone else, its a good street cam because lets face it thats the rev range where most people drive their cars on the street."aerodynamics are for people who cant build engines"

ThanX (techinspector1) for your insite and giveing me a better understanding about cam's, i do infact understand something's about lift, duration, and overlap, it's just that i havent had a chance yet to here what my cam sound's like. My engine's still on the engine stand with the cam dialed in and stuff soon to be fired up. I guess what i wanted was an oppinion about the Comp 268H. It would be nice if there were some sound bite's with each cam so you could here what it sounded like before you bought it. Since this is my first build and im just about finished with it, i did'nt want to wait untill the engine's all together just to find out that the cam choise that i made was wrong just to tare it all down again.

Don't worry, that 268 will work just fine! Should work fine with a stock converter and the rest of everything else your running.
Have Fun!!!

Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
