Dave, by it's very nature a forum is a place to discuss things, and one of those things can be ways to improve the forum itself. If you view it as complaining so be it, but I prefer to see it as us calling attention to something that needs fixed. If we just send a PM to Brent or Bill that excludes everyone else from the process, and maybe the other people have something valuable to contribute.
You can gloss over it by saying it is their forum and they can do what they want, etc., and to a certain degree that is correct. However, the members who actively participate are the soul of any forum and without those members all you have is an empty site. No one can deny this forum is not what it once was, both in feel and participation. It used to be alive with builds, suggestions, and interaction. Now you can log on and come back hours later and the screen hasn't changed. I've had conversations and PM's with members who have voiced the same opinion, and some of them don't come here any more at all. It used to be my first stop and favorite forum, but even I have changed in that regard.
So we can sit here with our heads in the sand and watch the forum decline, or we can try to let the powers that be know some not so good things are going on. I prefer to be on the side who is not afraid to speak up.

Ladies and Gents,
While I am not privvy to the reasons why the live feeds are here, I can relate to everyone wanting to know the hows and whys of what occurs here. You guys feel a certain kinship towards the site and when things differ from the norm you feel slighted in some way shape or form. Almost if it was your own child. Again, as the sole moderator these days, I have those same feelings. Yet, at the same time, I do know that everything happens for a reason, and I do not have a say as to what goes on (nor would I want that added responsibility as I can imagine what it takes behind the scenes to truly administrate the site as a whole) as I am not the owner of the site.
With that said, I've forwarded a link to this particular thread to Brent. He will respond when he has the time (remember, family and his full time job first) to do so. In the mean time, relax, pull up a bench, and relax as there is no reason to have any infighting due to a difference in opinion(s).
Here is wishing all of you a happy and a healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Bill S.Instead of being part of the problem, be part of a successful solution.

Thanks Bill for the reply. Some may see this sort of questioning as complaining and whining, but if those of us who have been vocal didn't truly care about this forum we wouldn't waste our breath. I know Brent has been sensitive and responsive to these issues when they come up, and all we are trying to do is alert him that they exist.
Thanks again.

I'm not sure why it's such a big deal. If it REALLY is something you want gone, then ok. It does bring traffic in as google/bing index them and people looking for cars and stuff come to the site. Some people do like seeing what's out there....or maybe I'm the only one who looks all of the time.Brent Mills

Brent,
For me, it's once a week and I know that Monday morning the list of "Today's Posts" is going to include the host of e-Bay ads. I have added that host to my "Ignore" list so there's nothing there to view, but the titles still show up and they're always on the first page. I don't personally see that they add any value to the forum, but they also don't cause me a lot of heartburn either. Just my humble opinion.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

I did the original bitch, I believe. Now - I really don't care. I know how to ignore them once a week now that I know what they are. There is nothing wanted/needed that I wont do a specific search for anyhow. Not a big deal though I think they do detract from the premise of the site - but I don't own CHR.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

Well, as you can tell from my earlier posts, Brent, I hate them. All they do is push worthwhile threads off the front page and make us scroll down to get past them. How they can possibly bring us more traffic I can't imagine. This is the only forum on the net that has them, to my knowledge, and why we do is beyond me. If a spammer were doing that you would have booted them off a long time ago.
You asked, so I have to be honest with you. I know some people who feel the way I do are being a little silent now, but their comments to me have mirrored my own feelings.

The linkage of driving people to the site because of them Io have some doubts. If I want to search on Ebay,or for that matter anyone, that is well known how.I do wish they where not on the site.Good Bye

I'll apologize ahead of time if I seem a bit short, rude, or I ramble a bit with this post, but I'm dealing with family health issues and have not slept more than an hour or two in the past 48 hours.........
At the top of the page, on the upper left hand side is a button marked "New Posts" if you click it, then bookmark the page, you get the latest threads that have new posts since you last visited the site. So, instead of using the main page "featured posts", you can easily see all of the threads with the newest posts. Usually 20-25 per page. With 3-5 "Ebay listing FYI" threads, the newest posts for the day will still show on that first page.
The way I see it and now understand it, based on a hours worth of reading at 3:30am this morning, Brent appears to be using this feature (now being used on the other two sister sites without complaint) to attract new users through Google style caching. What happens 24/7/365 is that the Google bots go out and sniff the web for new content (at any given time they search this site almost minute by minute. Quite mind blowing if you think about the computational power involved to search the entire web like that. Each time a new post, or a change of content is detected, a numerical assignment is given to that site, the more changes, the more hits, the more hits, the higher the site ranks in search engines, and in cross searches within those search engines. This in turn brings more people to the site, which then allows the laws of statistics to apply (The law of statistics has to do with the percentage of users who return vs the one hit wonders), thus potentially growing the user base of CHR so that it will continue to thrive in an economy that does not lend itself to the hobby and it's enthusiasts like it used to. As they say, every little bit counts these days, and seeing as we do not have an annual "let's keep the site open" fund raiser (we do on Club Cobra, and it was not something started nor asked for by Brent, not ever), I can see the benefit to Brent at this time. Again, I'm sorry for those that seem to get their nose out of joint over something so trivial (life in general is too short in my personal opinion) these days, when there are far more important things to be concerned about (like family)....For those that are still miffed, instead of focusing on the negative (some enjoy that, most do not and see through their head games), focus on the positive, take the time to enjoy the site, the camaraderie, the topics, and the free wisdom and knowledge offered......
In case I do not get a chance to do so before hand, here is wishing you all a Happy and Healthy Holiday season.
Sincerely,
Bill S.Instead of being part of the problem, be part of a successful solution.

Ok, here's an option....If you don't ever want to see the ebay section or any of the posts therein, you can become a contributor. You will instantly be put into a usergroup that gives you more PM's, More image space, and no access to those pesky Ebay threads. http://www.clubhotrod.com/payments.phpBrent Mills
