    Opinions asked for on colors

    Hi,
I'm trying to decide on a color to paint the '32 3W I'm building.
It's a project I'm going to be building with my son, and he suggested a really bright lime green (kind of like the Mopar Sublime Lime) from the late 60's.
I'd go with a really bright red (same as my Apache in my avitar), but I think two bright red cars might be boring.
I've always liked a really bright yellow (almost orange), but I don't want it to look like a clone of the Graphitti Coupe (even though that's more of a lemon yellow).
Don't think I want to go with black (but maybe if it had a hood top, I could go with flames on the top of the hood wrapping down and around the sides of the car?).
FYI, it's going to be a 3W highboy with no hood (top or sides - gotta show off the tri power).
Another color that has caught my eye recently is the burgundy that you see on the new Chrysler Pacifica...
Any way, I'm looking for advice and opinions, want to keep the car for many years, so I want to be sure that once I decide it's a color I like, but also something that 10-15 years from now won't look dated.
I like the really bright green my son recommended, but I'm a little afraid that the color might be too "plastic" looking?
As you can see, I'm really all over the board here and need someone to point me in the right direction.

Resin addict, Sounds great building a car with your boy.

Color is a very personal thing. There is no right or wrong choice. It is more a matter of personal preferrence, and the character you want the vehicle to have.

Most of the colors you suggested have something in common. Everything you suggested is a color containing some red or yellow, except for the black. These types of shades are considered "exciting" colors, and anything in the yellow-orange-red range is also a "hot" color. This suggests that you like that kind of color best.

I have been an enthusiast since about 1958, and have gotten to the point that I am repulsed by using the obvious choices. It is almost like people want to blend in, and not be noticed.

You did leave a few possibilities open, since you did not mention orange, yellow-orange, or yellow-green, which also are in that color group.

Another thing you didn't address is using a pearl, or metallic. The Copperhead pearl would be an example of that thinking. One of the interesting things about pearls and metallics is that they make things seem to have more value, since the radiance gives the paint a little bit of a magic look.

If I were doing the job for you, I would suggest either:

the well-known "Kodak Gold", a yellow-orange shade, which would give you a look of value, and also be different enough to stand away from the crowd.

"Ultra Orange Pearl", a House of Kolors shade which will give you a bright color, look of value, and be quite different,

or "Limetime Pearl", also from House of KOlors, which would allow your boy to be a part of the decision, has a brighter green-gold look, and the pearl adds value to the color.

Could always go with lime green over red with a small yellow and blue stripe between the two

Sorry, that was my 18yr daughter who is the fashion designer

I also am working on a project with my son (15yrs) it will have to be the color what you both look at each other and say that's it.

Paint your frame, the underside of your body, the inside o f the hood/s, firewall, interior the color you want.
Then paint the outside flat black. Easy to deal with (in case of chips etc. And when you open it up or people look underneath....

Thanks for all the replys, and if anyone else wants to add comments please feel free.
I really like HotRodPaints suggestion of "Kodak Gold"...I'm assuming by this you mean the color of a Kodak Film box or envelope...gives me the bright yellow I like, enough of a contrast from the red Apache, looks kind of like the Milner Coupe, but the colors different enough to make sure it's not a copy.
My son likes it too, we also both like the bright lime green, but I'm just afraid it'll look too much like a toy, I'm just having a tough time picturing what it'll look like on a '32 Coupe...I did a google search and couldn't find a single image of a bright lime green '32...maybe there's a reason for that?
I know that it's said that you have to choose what you want, but I'll be the first to admit I can make some poor choices, and when I'm investing this much in a project, I want to be sure that 20 years from now it still looks hot.

I'm gonna make this real easy. I keep a file of hundreds of pictures I've found that, to me, seem like great colors. I thought I'd look for an example for you, and I found a 32 3-window in yellow-gold.

Don't let this discourage you. How many red, yellow or black ones do you think there are? You weren't going to let that stop you....right?

I think it looks great! What do you think?

I really like the Kodak Gold...almost orange, but not quite, yellow, but not the typical yellow...and here in Michigan there are too many of any color, so that's not an issue
