A/C Alt. Drive
I am building a '32 HB w/small blk Chev and gathering parts and one of the big buck items is/can be the front drive assy. I would like input about the different drives the members have used on their hot rods. I will probably have no hood sides, at least at first, and will run 2x4's or TPI with alt. and a/c. The surpentine look is nice but the cost is high and wonder if it's worth the difference. I am building this to be a driver and really don't like to polish alum. so that will be a factor.
Thanks,
Jim

Hey Hippie,
When I was doing that I got my brackets from Bill's Hot Rod Shop. I ordered them through my local streed rod shop. The ones I got are steel and powder coated, he also has chrome. They sell them in a number of congigurations and I'm sure they have one that will suit your needs. The fit and finish on mine was excellent and they also provided advise over the phone when I had a question. The cost of my set up for A/C, Alt, P/S was about $300 including belts. Here is a link with a picture of the set up I used, probably not the configuration you need, but it gives you the idea.

Bill's does not have a web page, but I did a Google search and found a number of places that sell them on line as well.

Good luck, and I don't think you can go wrong with brackets from Bill's if they suit your needs
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I recently used Alan Grove. I like Bill Brackets better.
Cleaner assembly.
I don't know. When I buy a bracket for a specific application, I don't feel i should have to cut and grind to fit it.
I'm silly that way.

Stu Cool and rocknrod,
Thanks for the reply. I have been looking at the Bill's brackets for some time was pleased to hear your comments. I live in south of Ft. Worth and one of the local a/c builders handles them.
Rocknrod, I think you are the one who puts on the cruise's and I attend when I can especially Granbury. Thanks for the fun.
Remember the old saying - less weight more speed, there's no substitute for cubic inches and if it don't go, chrome it!

I understand that you are not going to run sides ora hood but you still want to keep things tight for looks and if you ever want to put sides and a hood on.
I got all mine from Summitt and they are polished that can be cleared so you do not have any work and they also have ones that can be painted or powder coated

I'm using a slightly different engine, but the approach would be similar. I'm running a Gen III engine out of a Yukon Denali. The accessory drives run on a surpentine belt system with the accessories mounted on aluminum brackets. I'm using the OEM brackets that will be powdercoated.
Other than LT1/LT4 engines with reverse cooling, check for OEM drives that you can pick up at a salvage yard for hardly any money. Powdercoat or chrome as necessary.
As mentioned, you can also buy brackets from various vendors and chrome or powdercoat as necessary.---Tom

Iceburgh and Swifster,
Thanks for your replies. I have a surpentine system from a TPI but clearance is to close to use it on present project, but I figure I will need it sooner or later (my wife thinks I collect "junk", but we know we will need it someday). Iceburgh, checked out you album and you are building a nice car, hope mine is even close. The bracket system is nice and I will add it to my list.
I am re-mounting my steering column right now and trying to get gas pedal, column and brake pedal all in a small space and still get my big feet around everything.
Keep on building and driving 'em.

Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
