Shipping rates on fiberglass front fenders
I have searched every website that sells replacement fiberglass fenders and can't find a shipping quote on a pair of fiberglass front fenders.
Most say "Will Contact You with shipping rate"
Well, I need to know how much they are gonna cost before I go shelling out any cash.
I have steel rear fenders and running boards but will use fiberglass fronts until I can find some steel ones but no one seems to be able to give me a shipping quote.
Has anyone had fenders shipped and approximately what do they cost UPS ground?
Thanks
Dave

I think you are just getting the wrong person on the other end of the line when making your inquiry. Move up the food chain a little and ask for a supervisor. You will want to know if these are going UPS oversize or via truck. If they can't give you a quote, do it yourself. Just get the dimensions and weight from them ( they ship these all the time and should be able to give you at least that) then call UPS. If they have to go by truck, that is a whole nuther story. The final rate depends on what these are classified as (every product that goes by truck has a classification) and you need to know if the shipper has an agreement with the truck line. For example, if you and I ship something we pay one rate, but if a company ships something they have a much lower rate. Also, if going via truck, have it held at the local terminal so you can pick them up there, it's cheaper sometimes.
You just need to make the fender supplier know you are serious about buying, but need a to know if it is going to be cost prohibitive to do so.
As a suggestion, I have had companies take a large item I have bought to a large car show in my area if they are setting up a booth there. I have had Total Performance bring a body, and Coker Tire has brought tires. They will usually do it free if you pay for the item up front, and it saves a lot of shipping.

A lot of companies won't give shipping quotes online for oversize parts, some end up having to be truck freight and the company will need to know if it is a residential or business address and a lot of other information the trucking company needs to know.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

OK,
Can I rephrase this?
How would YOU ship fenders at the least expensive rate since i bought a pair since posting this,
So far Greyhound seems the cheapest at $83 which I can live with or Fed Ex that wants $533 which is more than i paid for the fenders so who is the least expensive shipper of these parts?
I need to know this as I have a pair of near mint doors from a 41 Studebaker Commander I'm parting out and I need to be able to give this guy a reasonable rate as well.
Thanks

Check out FedEx GROUND. I ship this way all the time, and I bought 4 Model A doors and built 2 crates for the guy to put them in, shipped the crates to him, and issued a return call tag for each. Total shipping both ways on 2 crates, was like $ 240.00, or $ 60.00 per crate each way.
Can't the fender company help out on this? I'm surprised they aren't more involved. After all, they make and sell these regularly, right?

Truck freight isn't too bad, I recently shipped a pair of front fenders, crated for $87.00. If you crate them and deliver the box to the shipping company it saves you some, too.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Biggest thing I have shipped recently was a full size (45" tall) hanging traffic signal light. Not real heavy, about 55 lbs, but probably heavier than fiberglas fenders, and UPS charged less than $40 for ground delivery. At the $533 quoted by Fed Ex, I would drive to pick them up. At that rate I can buy enough gas to do a round trip of 5,340 miles. That would just about get me from my house in PA to Reno, NV and back.
