Two tone paint scheme for 32 5-window

I am looking forward to painting my frame and am considering a two tone paint scheme for my full fendered 5 window Deuce. I really liked the Chip Foose "Overhaulin" 66 Chevelle that was black over fawn separated by a narrow gold stripe. I wanted to use the beltline below the glass to separate the colors. Is the two tone scheme a good fit for this car or should I stay with a single color such as red overall scheme? I would like to hear others opinions. Thanks

As a painter and long time enthusiast, I am not a fan of one color jobs. I guess it is because I have seen the "generic" street rod for too long. With a two tone, you have the chance to give the car more of an individual personality......Someone might even remember it!

A 2-tone in those colors, and following the body lines, it is a very safe way to go. Also, since we are talking about black and a very light gold shade, which are both "value colors", you will give it a look of worth. Very little risk of getting into trouble with this plan.

I'm with HRP, the two tone paint definitely IMO gives the car a classier look (when done correctly) and separates it from all the red cars with a 350/350... Not meaning to offend the guys with red cars, just using them as a comparison.. Separating the colors on the belt line also creates a dandy spot for some nice pinstriping, too.

Foose does quality work but some of his two tone finishes just don't work. For example, he took an super clean and original looking black '50 Ford business coupe and made it pastel green and white I believe. If that car would have been mine, I would not have said "I've been overhauled". I would have said something else. Solid colors with no pinstripes or graphics get my vote.

I know Chip through my job and he helped me design the paint on my ' 32
The little swoop IMO really sets the paint off

I looked through HRP's photo gallery and found a 3 window with a two tone paint scheme. It looked very nice. I had followed the build of Iceburgh's 32, so I was familiar with his paint scheme. My 5 window will be much more stock appearing than either of these cars and will have the original style of bumpers, headlights and tailights. The stock look with the two tone paint scheme is my major concern. And I do agree with Earlyfordv8 on the 50 Ford coupe paint. That was not one of Chip's best jobs in my opinion, but I think the black over fawn paint combination should look ok on my car if I can come up with a good separation line and stripe that won't detract from the stock appearance of the car. I would like to hear any suggestions. Thanks

If you are trying to maintain some illusion of a factory appearance on your '32, metallics did not get popular until the '50s. Think: "How would Henry have done it"?

You need to keep it very simple, such as an ivory or tan in place of the fawn, and just use a simple two tone pattern. Seperate it from the black with a 1/8th inch pinstipe in a basic color, like medium red or orange, about 1/4 inch above the tan. That would give you a much earlier "look".

First off, Iceburg your '32 is super nice and I've seen it in several mags. lately.
deuce4papa, I agree with HOTRODPAINT and the others that to-tone is the way to go. I've got the material for my interior and had paint mixed to match both colors and planning on using 2-tone in and out.
    Good luck,

Iceburg, I'm going to "borrow" your 32's paint scheme for my van when I redo it--not an exact copy, but black over silver with a flame running down the side. Thanks for the inspiration.
