    original hood

Does anyone know if a 32 coupe or sedan original HF hood would fit a 32roadster?

Also, can anyone tell me if this pedal is in deed off of an original 32?

One last question, Deuce, can you tell is these leaf springs are original or not? I have nothing to compare them to, so I don't know. I think I counted 8 of them (that I could see)? there may be 2 more at the very top center, under the grill shell... (??) I am doing an inventory of everything on this rod, soeting out what is old and what is not. the brake pedal above I am thinking about buying if it is a real one.

Yes ... all 1932 Ford passenger hoods interchange ... but there are two different side panel types ...

The standard 20 vent and the optional ( after August the 18th 1932 warm climate V8 hood ) shown below ...

NO ... original 32 Ford pads have a diamond pattern and do not have any shiny ring around them but decent repros that LOOK original are available for around $20. Bob Drake has them

No, he's right, it probably isn't original, and you wouldn't want it to be. They are great for a stock 32, but for a hot rod an aftermarket spring is better suited, and it is newer.

Don't get too hung up on if your car has original '32 parts or not. Most rods aren't and don't really need to be. Someone has used an original frame, and you are seeing the consequences of that in the cracking you mentioned earlier. 73 year old steel can only take so much abuse before you start seeing fatique.

I am reading into this that you somehow think it makes you rod more cool if original 32 parts were used, and I don't think that is necessarily true. In most cases aftermarket parts make it more dependable with a better ride.

    Yep, good eyes Denny!

Looks like it takes a pretty good bump to make that happen (and it obviously has), but the potential consequences are not pleasant to ponder. Pray tell, what is the best solution? I can think of a couple but I'll bet this has been solved correctly long ago ............

You mean the clearance has already been fixed? I am not even sure that chip has anything to do with that, but I'll check and ask my specialist to check into it when I take the rod back in next week. thanks for pointing it out!

As far as old parts and new parts, I have always been partial to original cars and car parts, but I know sometimes new, improved parts are a better and safer way to go. I guess the secret is knowing what should stay and what should go. I am still learning... I personally am into primer rat rods more than into shinny perfect looking show cars, although both are lovely, I think most people tend to lean towards one or the other... I used to love show cars and hated rat rods and found them "ugly". Now I find myself loving the rat rods and the new looking modern roadster seem to no longer attract me... I guess rat rods are an acquired taste It is always funny to see the reaction of people when they see my car. I get one of the two:

REACTION ONE (people who love rat rods) - "You're not going to paint it, are you?"

REACTION TWO (people who love show cars) - "You're going to paint it, right?"

This one is the best comment yet. I am not sure who felt more insulted: My car, or me LOL: This older dude walks up to me at Rickie and Ronnie's cruise night last friday and point blank tells me: "When are you going to spend a couple buck and get a paint job?" My answer was short: "When I want one" . Regretably I had forgotten my chainsaw at home, so he walked away with his head still attached to his body

There is one other answer to jerks like that." What _______ing business is it of yours, ____________?" (You can fill in the blanks with your personal favorites)
Usually if you ask this question as you take a step toward them they get the idea that the question they just asked was not well received.
