Security on tours/Hot Rod Power Tour
My wife and I are planning on taking our 32' Chevy Hi-Boy on the Hot Rod Power Tour. we are sure that there will be plenty of security at the motels that the tour stays at, (???) we are wondering about getting to Little Rock and returning to Daytona in a roadster. While we are in Wis. (the end of the tour), we would like to visit relatives. I have several questions. If anyone has done a major cross country trip in a hot rod, I would be most interested in conversing with you. We have had various hot rods and muscle cars over the years, but have never been farther than 20 miles from Daytona. This will be a major undertaking for us, and we would love to hear some suggestions.

I use a hidden electrical cut-off, a Bar on the Steering Wheel, a Car Cover with a cable under the car, padlocked and a baby monitor mounted to the steering wheel, and try to park right outside the door of my Motel room.

And you travel this way? It sounds so simple, and logical. I, also, am assuming that you stay in well lit areas. Thank you so much for the reply. If you are ever in Daytona, give me a shout..............t

When I was a decade or two younger I used to travel all over in a roadster...... Best thing I had for travelling with it was a small trailer, one of the copy-cat Coke machine ones. Only way I've ever found to be able to carry enough stuff along.... My last one had a race-type quick release steering wheel that I took in the motel room with me at night, a very well hidden cut out for the battery, and an even better hidden ignition circuit cut out switch.... No problems.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I always parked my roadster right outside my door at the motel. I'm not as concerned about my coupe as I do not have door handles. But the baby monitor is a good idea--never thought of that.

All Trac is another good device. Should your car get stolen, you can use a lap top to find it. Originally designed to find your kids. Can be hidden in cars. Uses GPS and cellphone signals.

We have done 3 different power tours when we had the cobra, you just to learn to pack light, and not buy to much and most of the pwr tour shirts all had gm trash on them any way as for theft we had a couple of hidden cutoff switches, and a delay switch with the jacobs ignition, it would allow the car to run 7 seconds then die, just long enough to get out somewhere and die, and the car would not start, that would draw attention to you the if you were stealing the car. We also had replacement insurance for the value of the car, that would take a little bit of the sting if it was stolen.
Have fun on the tour, and hope it hasn't gotten to corporate

As for protection, there's a time delay bomb under the seat. For obvious reasons, I won't tell you which one.Bob

I drove 1,000 miles cross country in a 41 Chevy street rod. I would park close to the door and try to find a motel better then average, in a better then average spot of town. Still I don't think I got much sleep over the three nights on the way to my destination for getting up ever time I thought I heard something outside.
If a company could come up with a Denver boot for Street Rods, I think they could make some money, it sure works for the City's. When not it use, it could be design so it would fit in the trunk or make a special location to store it.
Maybe Brian could design something like that and I would need just a small percentage of each sale. The first person on this site of course with the money to start the business would be the CEO. We could even have a pyramid sales setup the more you sell the more you make, and if a person would want to buy several at a time they would be entitled to a modest discount.
