Sanderson lakester headers
I am looking to buy a set of Sanderson Limefire headers and was wondering if anyone out there has a set and if they are happy with them. I have read some bad reviews on there quality and customer service.
Thanks
Angelo

I have Sanderson headers and found their quality and customer service to be excellent. That said, sometimes they have a less than helpfull lady answering the phone, if you get past her to the tech guys they are extremely helpful. I have an odd ball combination that required me to modify the headers I got from them. They provided me with a box of scrap bends and pieces for $20 and once I was all done I shipped my headers back to be ceramic coated. They charged me just $115 for the Ceramic coating and had them back to me in less than a week. I was amazed. The headers fit great against the heads, so precise a gasket is not needed. Two years now and no leaks. I recommend them.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I had a set of Limefires on my old 29 RPU. I never had any problems with their quality, (welds etc were fine) but they would discolor badly from the heat. See the attached photo.
Mine were HPC coated and I would get them recoated about every other year.
The problem is the center and rear pipes come straight out, if they curved into the primary pipe i believe they would have not discolor as much.
Does Sanderson still sell Limefires? I thought they may have replaced them with the similar Jaysters.

No, the Jaysters are just a second type they now carry. Limefires are still available. I have two sets, one on my '23 and one on my '27. The ones on the '27 are 20 years old and still presentable. I drove the car daily for 7 years and it has sat in the rain many a day, still the headers have no rust.
If you are getting discoloration Mick, you have something else going on. Maybe too high an exhaust temp from a too lean or too rich condition. My first set was Jet Hot coated, and the new ones are now done in-house by Sanderson. Both are superb.
As Stu Cool said, the service has been great. Nick and Jay have gone out of their way to build exactly what we wanted and get them out the door quickly. My Son Dan had them make up a set of Jaysters to his specs for his 455 Olds, and they came out perfect.
Conversely, my Son Don went to Patriot and bought a set of their Lake style headers ( I have NO idea why) and they are horrible. We had to spend hours grinding the mounting holes to get them to even bolt up to the heads. Some holes were off by 1/2 inch or more. We finally got them on, but they leak badly out of the flanges and we have tried every high perfomance no leak gasket on the market.
Sanderson is number one in my book. Here are the ones I have on my '23 and an old picture of my '27. They were about 12 years old when this picture was taken. I am also posting a picture of Dan's Jaysters.

I have them on my truck. I had a odd ball request, and it was no problem. Good quality. I would buy from them again.

I had a chrome version on my 'bucket but that was very poor quality chrome so I had them Jet Hot coated and that was still on them 4-5 years later and still nice. The new owner did replace them though as one tube split about a foot long.
My current project car has the FF1 Ford block huggers and they fit nicely. I did purchase them without coating and glad I did - the insides had some significant obstructions where the 4 pipes met to go into the collector as well as many 1" pieces of mig wire ends stuck to the surface. It took me 6-8 hours and a couple of long burrs to clean them up then they were Jet Hot coated.
The nasty lady? She's the owner!!!Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

Thanks guy for all your input . I just ordered them yesterday, should be here in a week. I had ordered a set of Patriots from Southern rod parts last month and they kept telling me 7-10 days ,well 4 weeks later it was still 7- 10 day so I canceled that order .I tried Summit they said 1 week and them came back and said but they are back ordered like 3 weeks. Sounds like Patriot is having a problem. I called Sanderson and they said that I should have them next week. Lets hope.

I had Sanderson lake headers on my 32' 3 window. One day, I put the car cover on too soon and it melted onto the headers. I got off what I could with solvent, then went to town with an SOS soap pad. It not only got the plastic off the headers, but polished it too. 6 years and still looking good.
Don, I had Heddman headers on my 65' Biscayne with Merlin heads. Slight mismatch between the exhaust port and the headers. I found some exhaust biscuits at Earls braided supply. Trim to fit, exhaust leak is gone. No leaks after 4 years so far.

I hope to put a set of lakesters on my coupe someday; I just have trouble getting past the $640 price of the darn things. What puzzles me is that a lot of their headers have twice as much material and 10 times as many bends, but cost half as much. They obviously don't do pricing by time, material, and fair market profit...Jim
