    Question Hotrod storage unit?

Several years ago I saw an inflatable sealed hotrod storage container made out of clear plastic. You could place your hotrod inside it, close it up, and inflate it so that no dust or moisture could get to your ride. This would easily fit inside a single car garage with room to spare. My question is have any of you fellow members seen this and do you know who makes it? I would love to purchase one now, but for the life of me can't remember who made it nor have I been able to locate it on the internet! THANKS

I've seen a vendor(s) set up at Turkey Run with them, but I don't remember the name. They look pretty cool, just don't have a power outage or the thing will collapse.

    Mike,
Why do I have the feeling that Albany, Oregon would be no better then Albany, NY, also on US Route 20, for one of those inflatables. To keep out moisture and dust you would need some sort of air processing unit. The inflation fan changes the air 3-4 times an hour according to the advertising, and according to their FAQ, it keeps everything "completely dry"........not really. Temperature (sun heated topsides vs radiated ground cooling on the chassis) and air flow differentials (stagnant air, like the trunk, the undersides) will still tend to collect moisture And dust free?? Nope - not a chance.

When I have seen these at the shows I have sort of wondered the same thing. Here in Florida with 90% humidity on a good day I would think the tendency would be to suck moisture in.......as well as dust.

I'll have to talk to the vendor at Turkey Run this year and pick his brain, just out of curiousity.

    Don,
I just think that their advertising is a bit ...... exuberant.....that the truth might be a bit shaded. But the idea is good.

Filters are cheap and easy. Dehumidifiers are as well. That ought to be good enough. A quality unit would have both of those features built in IMO.

The California Car Cover company was selling them a few years back. They are not intended for outside use, the car needs to garaged. Plus you need electricity (not cheap anymore - unless you are backfeeding off your neighbor ) to run the fans and the inflation device. I would think condensation might be a problem in some locales.

I used one in a portable garage in Rhode Island over the winter, It worked real well. There is a filter that covers the fan and it worked well at keeping the dust out. I did get some rusting on my headers and exposed bolts. I did not have any problems with mice or mildew. They do make one for outside use but it can only be used in locations that don't have snow. The fan costs about a $1.00 a month to run, cheaper than the damage mice did to my car 2 winters ago. You can also buy one with battery backup if your area is prone to power failures. Carlg

Orange crush, I appreciate your input as to you having owned one, the monthly cost to run the fan, and that there was filter that covers the fan. If this cuts down on dust and up keep it will be a plus. I just want to seal it up in this portable garage after I have completely detailed everything. It would be used in a garage so that should cut down on some mositure. Thanks to all my fellow forum hot rodders who have guided me in the right direction!
