Body to Wheel gap?
I was wondering what the "mormal" gap seems to be between the body and the tire is on the rear of a 32 coupe or roadster open wheeled car? In pictures it looks like it is pretty close. Maybe 1-2 inches?
Mine is now 4" and it shows a little more rear axle than I want and the wheel seems a little too far away from the body.32 Ford

I am pretty sure mine is two inches--it is tight enough that I cannot fit my hand in there.

I used one inch between the widest part of the tire and the T body. Worked ok.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Thanks for the info, Guys. Sounds like I need to figure my backspacing and section wide so that I end up with 1-2 inches.32 Ford

Okay, I am debating on leaving 1" or 2" from the body. I like the look of the 1" better, but wonder if any of you running 1" have problems with any body/tire rub onto the body thus rubbing paint off!?!!?!?
This will either put me at 4.5 or 5.5 backspacing on my 15x12 rim. Brake caliper clearance is no issue.32 Ford

You can always split the difference and go 1 1/2 inches.

I run 1" or less always with no problems. The only way your tire will hit your body is in a body roll position. If you are running coil overs unhook them and put a jack under the shock mount on the rear end and jack it up this will show you how far it can go before you have any interference.

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
