How about using a rich "ivory" or Cream" color. It would give you something nostalgic looking, to go with the wheels. Just make sure it isn't too white. Then nobody would notice the color.
It would also work in a two-tone with dark blue....or a deep aqua blue. If you wanted it to look early fifties, use solid colors. If you want something late fifties/early sixties, use a metallic blue or aqua.
We managed to get a couple of other small things taken care of. One was blacking out the front of the core support. When the sun hit the front of the car just right that green paint on the core...
