7 inch window
I'm building a 32 three window coupe in Virginia and must have one windshield wiper. The arm needs to be five inches and the wiper needs to be 7 inches. What have any of you used or modified in this same situation?

Take a look at the Mighty Wiper, this was recommended by N&N Fiberglass for my '32 3W coupe.

I don't know if you have the wiper motor yet. On both my '34's, I use a "hotrod" motor, same as a marine unit. Specialty Power Windows make a billet wiper arm that can be purchased "bent right or left or straight", cut to lenght, and the blade can be cut as well. I don't care for the billet look ,but they did resolve a problem for me and besides, I painted them black, so, no more billet!!!

Unless Rain-X started making wiper kits your comment does not help get a title in the state of VA where they require a minimum of one wiper. As I read the original message the question is how to comply with the State's strict regulation for a 5 inch arm and 7 inch blade on a 7 inch windshield. The math says mount the motor shaft exactly 2.5" above or below the glass for an exact fit, assuming no frame on the glass, and an exact 7" clear space. This is why I suggested talking to Jack, who ran that gauntlet with his '34 not too long ago. Sorry if I mis-read the original problem.Roger

Don, even though a sense of humor is good, it has its place. As Roger mentioned, your comment about liking Rain-X didn't help solve his dilemma. With your many years of rod building experience, it would have been nice if you had offered a solution along with the humorous comment. Unlike some other rodding forums you like to frequent where short, humorous replies are the norm to someone asking technical questions, here at CHR we try to give legit answers when someone asks a specific question. It's informative to everyone, especially the newbie who's just starting out like me. That's just one of the reasons I think CHR is the best forum, especially for someone needing technical help. We also like to have fun here but the majority of the members are quick to help someone in need first. JMO

I probably over reacted, but then again, no, I don't have much sense of humor for questions about how to deal with the DMV. When I see a legit question about what seems to be an unworkable situation (how do you comply with the law for a minimum 5" wiper arm & minimum 7" wiper blade when you have a 7" windshield?), and that question is a guy's second post to the forum, then to me an "I like Rain-X" answer is not really very funny, especially coming from a guy who has built many, many very nice rides, and who has a vast knowledge of how things are done. That said, I still say that my answer guiding him to another experienced guy who has recently run the gambit with the VA DMV in a fine chopped '33 highboy is right. What works in AZ, or SD, or CA or anywhere else is likely irrelavent to the guy in VA, where the real question is "...why would they ever pass a law like that??? Does not matter, he's got to find a way to deal with it, or move. Talk to a guy who has experienced the pain before you, IMHO.Roger

Geez, sorry.... Didn't know it was a matter of life and death!!!!! I guess I just don't bother much with the DMV..... My other answer was worse, Think I'd move the heck out of Va. and go some place where the state powers-that-be actually concern themselves with issues that actuall matter and not how to make life miserable for Hot Rodders!!!!!
Actually, making light of a situation can often put a more realistic perspective to it and make the solution easier. Anything else just creates stress and I'm just too dang old to bother with the stress bs........ Life is far too important to be taken seriously!!!!!!
As far as just how important it is to the poster.....don't see him making any response to the postings after his initial question.....Maybe it isn't so important that a bit of humor is out of place???????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks for the input so far. I checked out the Mighty Wiper, but the cost is a little high for me. What I'm looking for is more of a self manufactured solution saves money and gives more satisfaction.
Thank you Roger. .
