The hassles Pa puts you through and the State Police with no sense of humor hot rod -wise are two of the three reasons I moved to Florida. (the third reason is that white stuff that comes down from the sky 364 days a year.)
Summer in Pa is a Tuesday in July.

I am in the same boat!! I couldn't get mine registered as a street rod because the original Ohio title states that was not built in 1932. So I had to register it as a regular passenger car.
Check out the PA DMV site for all of the items necessary for a street rod to pass inspection. There is lots of really confusing information there that I'm sure you'll find interesting.
Good luck and let us know how you do!!

I'd move.... If the state doesn't want street rods, then they don't want me or my tax money either!!!!!!
Unfortunately, from what others have said about similar states and hassles just jump through all their silly little hoops and play all their silly little games..... Then next election only vote for people who at least know what a Hot Rod is!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Learning must be difficult for those who already know it all!!!!

Pa is tough....I think the regestraion is now down to 6 pages it was 13. Problem is when they find a problem they stop and send it back. They should go through the entire thing highlight all areas that need corrected and then send it back.
Best thing to do is use a broker they usually have better luck.
Or do what many do and title it as a original '32 and a regular plate.

I was always led to believe that you guys up there had it fairly easy to get your cars on the road..Or is that just California??We have to build our rods,or any modified vehicle to a construction code, and have a very large manual, funnily enough called Code of Constuction manual,as an example, there are 35 pages just on seating and seat belts alone. Our vehicles are built with the assistance of a CERTIFIER,who will go over the whole job and inspect everything that has been built, modified, dicked with, and pass or fail, give it a brake test,60mph to zero in about 4 seconds, and do that three times in a couple of minutes without brake fade,if it doesnt pass the test for one reason or another, you can then take it back home,do your repairs/mods and take it back for another try..This is usually about $1000,for the certifier to go over the build as you are building and consequently, the final road testing, paper work etc. From there, allthe paperwork gets sent to the LVVTA,Low Volume VehicleTesting Authority, for a pretty little alloy plate about 4'' square, with said vehicles details on it,engine/trans,steering,braking,seating,rear end,etc...And THEN,you may present it to the LTSA,Land Transport Authority,or agent to get its warrant of fitness,[every six months]and your registration sticker and plates..more expense..but for a vehicle 40 years or over,it only costs about $78 a year..But thats how it is down here, could get worse yet,the government has been squeezing us for a few years now,the manual is the on going work of one guy with a fair bit of help with a few transport people to keep us on the road.If any one is interested in it ,contact me,dont wanna post any links in case I get ma butt singed..Micah 6:8

Damn! If I had to go through all of that, I would probably choose not to be a rodder. I just don't have that kind of patience. On the other hand, if I really wanted a rod, I would buy one that has already been registered and save the aggravation.
I'm not out of the woods yet as my sticker and owners card have not arrived. There is a chance that it'll get rejected and sent back.. Then I'm screwed!!

Can you guys not get your rods legal in another state, then use it from that point?or get it legal in another state and get it re tested,or whatever, once its back in your own state?
What if you buy a rod in another state, take it home and drive it out of the state you bought it in,?legal?or a gonad frying session with the local authorities because they dont like your car at the nextcheck?I dont really know how your system[s] work in your country, but it sounds like they dont like rodders a whole lot in various places,I think this needs its own thread, sounds like a can of snakes, too much for worms...
Deuce Ron,it does sound like a lot of hassle, but it works quite well,a lot of hot rod shops will usually organise the certifier in their area to come in on an as needed basis, but everyone knows that it has to be done,so there is no real probs, but to a guy who has re entered the rodding scene after a number of years, its a bit hard for them to have to do it this way, after ''the good old days''.I hope it works out ok for you,it would be a hassle to go thru all that and not be able to use your rod, looks kool too..Last edited by lamin8r; 09-15-2009 at 11:54 PM.
