axle c-notch reinforcement
I would like to reinforce the rear axle c-notch on my 32 ford frame. I can't find a previous post where a reinforcement plate was drawn up that would slide into a slot down the center of the frame rail around the c-notch. The post showed how the plate was to be made and how the frame was to be slotted. Does anyone know of this type of reinforcement or where to find the previous post? I would like to do this, but would like to look at the drawing of the correct way to do this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe I dreamed that I saw this. Or maybe these c notches don't need reinforced. If it aint broke, don't fix it?

check out some custom truck sites. they have been notchinbg for years. basically you make a cardboard template, transfer to plate steel and weld her in. it's unique for each vehichle but the theory is the same

Take a look at the new Street Rodder rag - I just got mine yesterday and 'glanced' over an article that showed how Shadow Rod is doing the street tour 2010 car. May not be what you want but.......Dave W

If you box the frame, it is reinforced ... IMHO.
I like to use a section of pipe for my " C " notch . With the frame boxed, then trim out for the section of pipe and then weld the section in. Dress up and detail ... DONEGoing 33 and 1/3 rpms in a IPOD world

Here's a tip--make sure you cut the notch so it is slightly longer in front of the axle because your axle will be coming up at a slight angle. If you make the c-notch directly over the housing, your axle could rise up and hit the front edge of the c-notch. Ask me how I know. *#@%&!

Thanks for the replies. I have the c-notch completed, but I remembered the post showing the reinforcement plate that would be placed in the frame rail from the top and straddle the c-plate and weld in from the top and bottom of the frame rail down its length. I think this type of reinforcement was used in the aircraft industry. It just looked like it would be much stronger as it would be like two narrow frame rails side by side at the c-notch area of the frame. This may be overkill. I don't know.
Thank you Roger. .
