    Front shock travel

     



    Looking to buy my front shocks. The compressed and extened lenght. What would be a safe travel lenght. I dont want the shock to bottom out or have it extened out to far.From the bottom to the top mounting points is 14 1/2 inchs What shocks would work for this setup.

    I've kinda been doing the same thing.. I would suggest contacting the Tech's at Speedway, then you have access to AFCO at the same time! They will also ask you about shock angles (how much it leans). As well as weights, even estimates, and what kind of options you might want. Like adjustables, compression or rebound or both!

    That's where I ended up and they made it easy!

    If you want a good shock that actually works right, it depends on a lot of different things like weight, total weight and front weight, as 34-40 mentioned shock angle has a lot to do with it too. Also depends on what you want the shock to do as to what the valving in the shock is, how you intend on driving the car, and a lot of other things. Price also becomes a consideration, shocks can run from $30.00 each to $300.00 each depending on how much quality you can afford! I usually gather up all this information about the car, then have a long chat with the shock guys at Speedway as 34-40 suggested. They deal with suspension and shock issues all day long and our current on what's new and most importantly, what works!

    So the mounted measurement is 14 1/2 inches???
    Jack the front up so the axle can hang and measure --that will be extended length---now let the car down til it bottoms out on the travel--that will be your compressed length-- you want to pick out one that will fit those 2 diminsions with the 14 1/2 number pretty much in the middle of that travel---these numbers will be the same no matter what the angle, weight or $$$$$ are.

    Shocks are usually fitted 1/3rd compressed at ride height.
    Its aweful lonesome in the saddle since my horse died.
