32 ford hood
buying parts to build the wife a 32 ford 3 window coupe and she wants to use a steel hood top only with 4 leather spring loaded leather straps to hold the hood down. Who sells those straps and what kind of stiffeners do I need to put on the hood for this type of hold down?????????????? Seen Rootlieb and Hagan hoods advertised. Anyone know the benefits of one over the other??? Will be a fiberglass body/chassis combination purchasing from Davviki.

You can get the straps from Limeworks (limeworksspeedshop.com) or Restoration Supply Co. (restorationstuff.com) has all the parts to make your own. They are a bit pricey however.
There may be some other places that carry the parts as well, like farm or horse supply stores.
I've never used a Hagan hood but Rootlieb is of good quality. I'm sure you could make a small stiffner, if needed, to attach a footman loop to where the leather strap could fasten.

I had planned on using the leather hood straps but after seeing way too many at the last couple of NSRA shows, decided they had gotten too popular so did my own "thing" with some $20 worth of webbing and hardware. My hood hold downs don't catch your eye by being two pieces 2" wide with some heavy hardware on each side and detract from the engine appearance. Obviously, not for everyone, but work for me to hold my two piece Rootleib hood tops down.
Rootleib is the "standard" for after market hoods and offer several variations of top and sides. Both Rootleib and Hagen will make custom hoods as wellDave W

And if you haven't handed over any money to Davviki yet...........keep your hands in your pockets. There's a reason, no, make that many reasons, why the internet is loaded with warning stories.

As a builder of 38 32's in the last 11 years, all I got to say about Davicki
is ----- Have used Wescott, Downs, Show Me and N&N.
NEVER had an issue.
Had a customer supply me with a Davicki, and after 2 days in my shop, He and I cut it up with a sawzall and used an N&N I had in stock.
PURE JUNK
Do yer homework
Attached are all N&N
little to NO bodywork
and fair pricing
Great people to work with compared to Davicki
Good luckWhen I get to where I was goin, I forgot why I went there>

Like Bob says, and amplified by Don's long experience, hopefully you haven't already bought the roller. I'm another happy N&N customer.Roger

I didn't want to receive the car until the end of this year to give me time to work on a couple other project cars under construction but I did send Davviki $500 just to hold the price firm. Sounds like I better rethink this deal before I send a full deposit on contructing the car for me. Cars he had on display down here at Turkey Rod Run the last couple years were put together and fit real nice and he delivers free next November to that event so I figured that saved me a thousand dollars in shipping or my traveling cost and is part of the reason I was going with him. And I want the frame special with bobbing front and back, C-Notch rear, full pinch front rails and car to sit as low to the ground as humanly possible without channeling body over frame. But with others getting bad welding and real bad bodies from Davviki I don't know. I built a new 37 Ford from Oze Rod Shop and that body was perfect with no bondo to prepare it for paint. Then on the other extreme I bought a new 34 Ford from Coury Davis in Atlanta area and that body was a nightmare to get straight with a good gallon of bondo on a little 3 window fenderless coupe!!!! I do all my own body and paint work but no sense in spending lots of hours to fix a body just to save a thousand dollars. And the wife will probably keep this car till she dies so it has to be right. I will have to give N&N a call and see how much extra they charge for all the frame upgrades I need.
And thanks for the help on the hood straps guys. We will buy the leather strapping and parts to make our own just like is pictured above.

Thanks for posting all this information! I will be looking for hood/side options once I get finished with my project, and that yellow 3 window gives me some ideas about what I have to do. I want to run mine all year, in all weather, and the hood/sides will be needed. Thanks again!New Age Motorsports 32 5/W 521/C6
