Different Mark versions of 454.
I'm just now beginning to get into automotive care. I'm wanting to rebuild a BBC to drag race. My question is about the different versions of the 454. What do I need to look at when buying a block? Are there big differences? Does each version need specific parts?

Welcome to CHR. Wiki has basic history that will get you started on the differences - Chevrolet Big-Block engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaRoger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

There is much more to drag racing than just the motor. My best advice would be to purchase and read through a book such as this one to get an idea of the whole picture.....
Drag Racing 101: From Building Your First Race Car to Securing Sponsors: Ike Heckler Jr: 9781450514903: Amazon.com: Books
As far as what BBC to use, Gen VI. One-piece rear seal, 4-bolt mains and factory roller cam.
.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.
Ditto on the model kits! My best were lost when the Hobby Shop burned under suspicious circumstances....
How did you get hooked on cars?
