    Different Mark versions of 454.

I'm just now beginning to get into automotive care. I'm wanting to rebuild a BBC to drag race. My question is about the different versions of the 454. What do I need to look at when buying a block? Are there big differences? Does each version need specific parts?

There is much more to drag racing than just the motor. My best advice would be to purchase and read through a book such as this one to get an idea of the whole picture.....

As far as what BBC to use, Gen VI. One-piece rear seal, 4-bolt mains and factory roller cam.
