Yeah, too many schedule conflicts this year to make it down. SEMA would be nice, but he's more likely to bring an electric scooter.............
He got his ponytail in a knot and stormed off one day never to be heard from since. He may calm down some day and wander back.......Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Didn't take pics at LARS......too humid for me. We did identify several items to fix....like the red battery cable in Uncle Bob's #14 post. Red jacketed cables were not 1947 correct. We also found several more items that will be changed in the coming weeks. The roadster is supposed to be at some charity display at Crusin' Grand in Escondido on Aug 7. It will probably be at San Diego Deuce Day Oct 3 and who knows where else. These are low key car shows that minimize the duster-crowd participation.....one reason the roadster was at the feed store was to get more dust on it!
At LARS, some didn't understand but most people really dug the 1947 detail. We didn't have time to stuff the 1947 era racing newspapers into the body areas but that is coming. We had the cam break in half during the motor startup (9 days before LARS) but the guys hustled and put our spare motor in for the show. The broken cam will be replaced and the hotter motor re-installed. Car drives fantastic with the Rotoflo shocks and the hidden rear sway bar. It has been up to about 75mph so far with zero handling issues.
Since Uncle Bob has been on me to install hubcaps (he must have some for sale?), I will put the hubcaps on it soon. We didn't want to risk scratching the wheels for the show if the hubcap look was wrong.....the look good....the ones I had, not the ones Uncle Bob is trying to sell. Tim MacN has been on our butt about the pipe length but we are standing firm..... in that era, dual pipes that were polished were a pride thing.....couldn't be too long. I remember buying those cheezy chrome tips that were held on using a set screw.

Okay........now we probably should do a poll on this. Here's a pic of the lovely set of caps I offered Mike (note; two of them he sent to me for the "Better Beater" '39, how's that for irony). Good enough for who it's for, right?

Gee, I remember sending you cherry caps....little did I know you would run them into curbs, piss on them, use them to feed the dog and horses, play Frisbee with them, use them for your UFO pictures, wear one for a beret, roll them down the hill, use one for your short legged table support, drive over them in the driveway, shoot at them (glad you missed), and generally abused them. Forget it, they are yours. It would cost more to send them back than I could get for scrap at the Tucson Scrap Metal and Stolen Goods Yard.

Uncle Bob..... I have four more wide-five hubcaps for sale that are mucho better than the ones in your picture. You interested OR did you sell the 39 sedan? I figure that now you have a swoopy 36 convertible (is it a convertible or a roadster?), you don't need the sedan and probably passed it on.

Here is an opuntunity to educate me again :- Roadster; a car with a folding or removeable roof with no side glass.
Convertible; a car with folding roof with side glass in doors and rear quart panel etc. ...
I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Whip, I think you are technically correct although Chevrolet called the Corvette a "roadster" in the 70's and it had roll-up windows. Some define the difference as a back seat or no back seat nowdays. Certainly the 53 and 54 Corvettes were true roadsters since they had no roll up windows. I tend to use your definition.....no roll up windows and a single front seat (but not a phaeton with no roll up windows and a second seat).
If we come down to NZ maybe in your Springtime, what is a good month? Can we squeeze two or three roadsters into our luggage and drive around? How do you get from the north to the south and vice versa? Ferry? Swim? Plane? Long bridge with toll? Some Kiwis at LARS have us convinced that NZ is the place to visit.

October, November, early December, then late January, February, and March.
The fortnight/three weeks either side of New Year is the height of our tourist season; every man, his wife, family, and dog is on holiday.
All motels, hotels, camping grounds and ferries are booked solid.
As far as I'm aware; yes.
It has been done before; but I'm not familiar with what is required.
If you want, I can make enquiries through NZTA.
(Although I might not be the right man for that job after my little contretemps with them a while back...bureaucrats have long memories...especially those at the top of the pecking order.)
Roll-on, roll-off ferry.
There are two ferry services operating between the islands, Interislander and Bluebridge.
Prior to, and after, the holiday period mentioned above it's pretty well a case of 'turn up and go'.
(Although it still pays to book in advance.)
And New Zealand is the place to visit; allow at least four or five weeks...there's an awful lot jammed in to a small country.johnboy
