Steel A bone 2 Door
Hotrod Roger,
I don't know where a steel 32 is but I found the following ad in today's Des Moines Register:
FORD 1930 MODEL A
2 door body, fully fendered,
solid, $1500. City of
Boone (IA) 515-432-3519
1932? Not exactly, as Hertz says. But it is steel and would make a good rod. Just a thought.Last edited by Oldf100fordman; 06-04-2004 at 12:32 PM.

Here here to kennyd's comments. I would also point out that Street Beast (formerly the crooks at CMC) pioneered the "all fenders bonded as one, though to the main body section, and it's part of what devalues them. If you ever munch a fender, it'll be far more work to replace with those integrated setups.
As for price vs quality, I've stated it often, don't buy a body built down to a price, buy one built up to a quality standard.
But then I live by the principle; The bitter taste of poor quality lasts far longer than the sweet taste of a low price.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Guys,
Thanks for all the info. I'm in the market for a '32 sedan because I can't get into a coupe or roadster and be comfortable- I'm 6'4''. I also have a daughter that goes with us. I had a super all steel '32 sedan that I sold in '96 due to relocations threats by my employer. I can't afford to come close to replacing it for what I sold the car for ($28.5K).
The '32 Ford bodies that Oscar has advertised in Hemmings are located in Argentina! I'll have to pass on that one...
HR: Man, I hate to hear about your '34 body. I looked at a '34 Bebops body last night that is for sale in my area. The woodwork in the car was horrible. The outside of the body was excellent but had already been worked and primed. The door fit was terrible. The top of the doors didn't come close to fitting the body. The current owner was having major problems getting the inter door panels onto the skins. I was a little surprised to see that you had to bond the two together. I am assuming that this was done for door glass installation and latch reasons...
But your comments, along with those of others, makes me a little gun shy to fork over that kind of money on a body sight unseen.

This may sound like a tale but I just went to Paso this weekend and saw my buddy Lars who scored a steel(from Henry) 32 Roadster on ebay for 16k cause the pics were less than desirable and it was built (by the book literally) by a teacher and his students. They built it looking at old rod mags(looked like a Vern built car). Let me tell you this thing nearly made him faint when it rolled off the truck for delivery. and my jaw dropped when he told me the price at Paso. All red paint, highboy style, flattie that rode like a dream. With a few things I'm sure we would all change for personalities sake but other than that a beautiful car. So there you have it, it happens LOL.
Roger Dont know what yer planned budget is but heres some 32 sedans fer sale.

As a side note to HR, I replaced the "shelf" behind the seat with a triangulated, 1" square tube cross brace for greater rigidity, and to allow the seat to slide back a couple more inches for more leg room.
This looked like a good idea to me, since the package shelf is out of plumb by 1 little over 1-1/2" from side to side. However, my gas tank is pretty much flush with the front of the package shelf, so I'll just have to level it out. Thanks for the idea, though. Sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious.

Okay, since we're talking about hiboy sedans, here's one that I think captures the hot rod idiom to near perfection. Granted it's a Model A, but Barry Lobeck did this one and it shows. A sedan bodies are still very common, and on deuce rails they take on a personna that's just way cool. If you can't get up for an A sedan body, then you can't.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Justin: Thanks for the links. I am finding out that a lot of the Internet classified sites are not purging their ads, and most do not include a posted date. The majority of the cars that I have called about have been sold (by several months).
Bob: That's probably the coolest A sedan I've seen. I ran upon that car advertised on one of the sites- can't remember which, but it had been sold.
I think I'll hold off on ordering a glass car at least for a couple of months. I'm going to Columbus for the GoodGuys show and to Louisville for the Nats. I know Gibbon will be at Louisville and maybe Redneck- along with a few thousand cars...hopefully there will be a sedan hiboy among the lot for sale.
I have found a 34 Chevy sedan (steel with the exception of the rear fenders) that is a nice car (even though it has fenders). It hasn't been chopped. I like the car, but it's a street rod as opposed to a "traditional style" hotrod, which is what I'm really after. But it's tempting to buy the car and turn the key as opposed to spending the next two years turning wrenches and busting knuckles...but hey, that's what it's all about. But at 44 and a family to keep after, time is a valuble commodity.
Thanks again for all of the replies- keep your bolts tight and your belt loose...

I gotta agree with you , Dave! IF you can find a '32 "anything" for 18,000 or less it's not going to be much at best. As far as "streetrod" and "hot rod" go, MY opinion is that a streetrod usually uses a lot or all store bought parts ( and has billet mixed in with hot rod parts) and is often built by a builder or shop. A hot rod usually is built using "good old parts", has a "hot rod engine" and sticks to a hot rod theme. I refer to my 32 roadster as a "hot rod" and the same with my '32 coupe, and I've put a LOT of travelling miles on the roadster in 7 years and it's never let me down yet."nobody likes a top on a roadster, but it's nice to have one in the trunk when you need it!"See us at www.topsters.com

With anything you get what you pay for or suppost to . Street Rods are not cheap . And for the beginner very aggrivating . I biuld cars out side of work along with some custom bike work and I will not touch a pick-up for less than $70 a roadster for less than $85 or a coupe for $95 .

There's the key. You're SUPPOSED to get what you pay for . . .
