    jag irs and width.....

    planning to put a jag irs setup in and was wondering if anyone off hand knows a hub to hub measurement on their 32. this particular set up is 61" hub to hub, which seems a little wide to me but i dont know. im just wonding if im goint to have to narrow it.

    im probably going to run some at least 275 series tires also, and while im at it, would anyone thinkit neccessay to get the tubbed version of the downs glass body, im just in the planning stages so any insight would be helpful.

    im starting with american stamping rails and tube x memeber, going to bob the front and rear and pinch the rails for probaly heidts ifs.....

    thanks

    Well, you certainly won't need tubs with a 61" rear!!!! Must be from a sedan.

    "Typical" rear width, flange to flange, on a "normal" '32 rod is around 56" (+- 1/2"), with wheels that have around a 3 1/2" backspace. Figures need to be somewhat flexible because of differences in body configuration. You should probably set up the body and frame, then determine what axle width/wheel combination will fit best. Jag rears are narrowed with regularity, so it's not a deal killer to get the 61" unit. And if you have to tub the body to get the wheel/tire combo you want, you'll need to "pinch" the rear rails too since they fit right up to the back of the wheel well.

    thanks, thats kind of what i figured i just wanted to confirm with someone that has experience.

    another question, what is involved with setting up an inboard coilover front suspension, like heidts indy style, do you stretch the hood and frame or his there room in front of or behind the radiator.

    thanks

    re Jag Rears

    Torch;

    I've been away for a fewmonths and just read your post, I'm building a 32 3 Window also and Hi Boy w/ Heidt's open wheel front end, Pinched nose, stretched 4 " , and kicked up 2" in the Rear, I'm also installing a Jag Rear, mainly Jag Had three rear ends they made, the early 'E' Type was thae Narrowest measuring 53 1/4", the 70-74 XKE V-12 and 60-69 3.8S Body rear is the perfect width for a 32 as Uncle Bob pointed out, measuring 56 ", then the later years all measured 61 3/4 " Flange to Flange. As Bob pointed out the lower control arms can be shortened or lengthened if you had an 'E' Type Rear. It is very important that they are square as it will effect the alignment of the Rear when your Rod Is Complete.
    If I may suggest go to this web site and order their catalog there are lots of photos and it's loaded with information that will answer alot of your questions, you indicate your in the NorthWest so they may be in your back yard . ( Like Uncle Bob ) http://www.geocities.com/~concourswest/ , these fellas specialize in Jag Stuff and are very Knowledgeable on them. I made a Jig to shorten the Control arms and it is not that difficult , their Great rears , but like most other parts you just have to understand them a little. I personally think their really a Great Rear to install. You can run the Wilwood Calipers and Aldan Coilovers, You'll also have to have new Half Shafts made , however and good Driveshaft shop can do that for you , I paid ~ $300.00 for a pair with all new U-Joints. If you have any other questions , just ask, Hope this will shead some light on your Project. Good Luck to You !

    re; Jag IRS

    Hello Dave ;
    Sorry for being away so long, but if youv'e watched the weather we've been through 3 Hurricanes , and recovery time has been eating up the build time, hopefully we'll be working on the 32 again soon. I'm going to try attaching a coupe of pic's on this Thread, I've never done it so hopefully it'll work. Nope won't allow me to copy and Paste, maybe someone out the re that knows about puters an help us. Anyhow it's an awesome front end, I know several fellas who have them on their car and they ride GREAT, it coupled with the Jag it oughta ROCK. I'll keep trying on the Pic's . Tim
