I can well recall what the 64 427 Galaxies Looked like and ran like on the streets and at the tracks, hell i can recall what the 61-62 406 Galaxies and Starliners looked like and ran like, at the track and as driven on the street. had a competitor; Jacob( shoulda been named Gabriel for the way he used to blow off folks doors most of the time); on the streets back in my early race days who, 1st, with a 62 Galaxie Starliner Coupe, black on black in black, 406 4spd Posi, used to abuse me somethin fierce in my 65 GTO 389 3spd manual posi. Some years later, with my newer 67 W30 4spd tri-power Olds 442 Jacob had aquired a red on red in red 1964 427 4spd posi Galaxie. we ran on street tires and i could get out on em n hold em off by a lenth or so, later, both on cheater slicks(old hard wall 8" ers), he could leave with me and pull off by 2 in 3rd n 4th.
Granted, he wasn't stock or on street tires, but then in truth, since it was always a dealer/owner installation option 66 n 67 for the 442, neither is a tri-power W30 442, and i wasn't on street tires either.
I can recall running well into the 13's with the 442, stock as it was when i bought it, on street tires, so 12.7's with one of those big beasts is well within reason in my humble opinion, most certainly for a "legal Stocker"
Actually my experience with Jacob led to my 1st purchase of a Ford Hot Rod, my 1965 390 4spd posi Ford Galaxie Coupe, which ran pretty decent too me, especially considering all i ever changed was tires, points, plugs, oil, filters, and the odometer reading by a few k miles.
Pat reminded me of the car with his comment about the Fomoco carb he moded, which is what MY Galaxie had on it; Jacob's 62 was Tri-Power, the 64 was 2 x 4v BTW; and Dago reminded me of my experiences with Jacob and his 406 n 427 cars, both of which are fond memories for me, even tho he would whoop on me.... thanx guys....Last edited by MrWizard455; 01-06-2010 at 02:39 PM.

My uncles was black on black too, they called it the black rocket. As far as I know the only mod he did on it was a hurst shifter. The other thing I think gave him an edge was he used to get it tuned by a local legend engine builder in town and tuning can be an art too.
I had a great surprise the other day, we had just moved the Nova into the garage off flatbed and the mailman was across the street, after everybody left but me (including my uncle) he comes over to check out the car and proceeds to tell me that he has at home the 64 galaxie 427 with auto trans. Too cool.

BTW, as for mods, there were some minor one i recall to Jacob's 62, a lot more so to the 64, includin a rather knarley solid lifter cam, man would that big boat scream on the top side.
When we ran on slicks, i was surprised that it made him enuff diff that he could now LEAVE WITH me stead of 2-3 behind, but i Still THOUGHT i could hold him off, but as soon as he'de hit 3rd, the "big Red" as he called would jus simply began to walk away, screamin like a bashee jus like it did on leave, and the slicks didn't actually STOP the spinning, both of us stick shift but he was smokin the hides a lot more than me. I tried him more than a few times on the stickies, ended up 2 n 4 and a total of 100 in the hole... we ran 6 times, 2 on street tires, 4 on slicks. i won both times on street tires and lost all 4 on the slicks at 25 bucks a pop, so he won his 50 back plus 100 of MY money.Dallas
