Fastest Stock American Cars
In response to those complaining about vipers/new vettes/cobras, I am starting this thread. The rules are simple. 1)It has to be a genuine production car. For example-ViperSRT10 yes. Viper 800 hennesey-no. If it is a factory mod with high numbers IE: Boss Mustang Yes. If it is a low production factory mod such as the Race-Only Hemi Cudas, No. OK, Start posting times!Right engine, Wrong Wheels

i don't think 400 gt40s produced(with just over 100 sold) is a really high number, but i guess it's all relative.......the top two are sure to be the new z06 and srt10coupe whenever they get some track time......i can't think of another american car(exluding base vette and vipers) that's in production right now(there isn't an 05 cobra yet, is there?) that is gonna be within a second of either of them......but maybe i'm missing something.........

u guys really wanna know what the fastest stock american cars are....
the new viper the got is one of them....the 2006 concept
its got the tuned up v-10 with a completely carbon fiber body
which makes it 1200 lbs lighter which boost accel and top speed
this new 2006 cocept 4cylinder car with smoke the C6 corvette
it a dodge neon srt Twin-turbo/twin intercooled, comp cam, k&n typhoon intake system with hooker headers, all bolted to a T.C.I racing transmision/w 6spd
plus its got optional nitrous fogger kit
off the line it has 404 hp and 412 ft lbs of torque
top speed of 214mph
with fogger kit it has 522hp and 565 ft lbs of torque
top speed of 233 mph
its pathetic when a 4 cyclinder car can smoke a corvette
but mopar always pulls ahead of the competion
so its not unusual for a dodge to beat a chevy

Mustang,
We're not talking concept cars here. When we see those cars manufacturer produced, in the Dodge Show rooms for anyone with the $$ to buy, street and smog legal, you can count them.
In the mean time, I gotta go with the new Z06 7 liter Corvette, the latest Viper, and the Ford GT. All of them are listing 500 rear wheel HP, and with the suspensions and chassis to control it.
It will be interesting to see the inevitible comparison tests.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

the viper isnt a concept...they are gonna make put it in a limited production...i say concept because they havnt actually put it on production yet
where i live in wisconsin,,,,,there is no exhaust regulations or anything....the only restrictions around here are that you cant have the blower on your motor more than 3 inches above the hood
i got a fully moded street legal 1990 mustang 5.0 25th year anniversary edition for now thats good enough for me....

* That's my point. Until they do, it's not a production car.

* Even in Wisconsin new vehicles have to meet Federal Emission Standards.

* That's cool, sounds like a fun ride.

I love reading these posts, especially when someone chimes in and doesnt read the first part of the thread, THEN goes on to say something dumb, THEN knocks the biggest manufacturer of cars but yet drives a 5.0 Regardless, the vette definitley has to be at the top of the list along with the other two powerhouses (mustang, viper). Is ford coming out with a SVT version of the mustang or not? Im not a ford guy but i would love to see a new SVT mustang.

lot of rumors on the cobra, but nothing official.....
the gt40 isn't even safe enough to drive right now and costs 140k+
the 05 z06 was at least low 12s(one mag got it 11.99 i think?) and the new one should blow by that with the 427 and 500hp
at 70k it's taking a run at the vette in more than one way...
dcx says low 12s for the new viper, but they've been highballing most numbers lately(i.e. the srt4 was billed as a 14.2 car if i remember right, but there have been many in the 13s and a few stock lx hemi cars have dipped into the 13s ) , and even that was with a 120 trap estimate so i'd say it'll be at least close with the new vette, which is good since it costs at least 10k more
there are a lot of high 12 to mid 13 cars out there: the mach one, cts-v, gto, any of the srt8s that will be coming, ect....
new car prices aren't so cool though....i thought about a magnum last spring and decided that i'd rather spend that new car money on modding a used car instead.......but if you've got the cash i'm sure that new car smell is nice

Well it's been a while since I commented but I think Stu is correctly restating the question...What are fastest production cars..ie one that anyone with 20 to 25k could jump in and toast the pavement and still get back and forth to work in. cars that were made by the thousands.
No doubt the vetts are fast especially if you fool the gov's a bit. but at 40k a bit out of the ordinary guys reach. Now a used one will fit within the rules.
I had an 89 T-Bird super coupe (roots blower stock) many many of these were made. they went for 20k new 10 used. Anyone of these could and still can run 145mph and get 20 mpg or better. There is a huge cult forum of these and there are many pictures taken from the back seat of the speedo long burried with the tach at 4800 -5000 . they ran about 1800 rpm at 60 so you can see about 140-145 easy. I did it one time in mine that was enough. Not great drag racers except for a 3.8 they did make some power if you wanted to spend a bunch. They have a wicked top end and are deceptively quick from a rolling start.
The hot rod Mustangs are also some really fast and quick cars, Today Chrysler 300m and Hemi magnum are probably right up there. I sure there are some Camaros and Firebirds that can get with it too. I think the Cad with the NorthstaR was pretty fast too.
just my input
betnwings41 Willys 350 sbc 6-71 blower t350, 9in, 4 link
99 Dodge ram 3500 dually 5 sp 4.10
Cummins turbo diesel . front license plate, black smoke on demand, Muffler KIA by friendly fire (O&A Torch co) fuel pump relocated, large fuel lines. silencer ring installed in glove box, Smarty
older than dirt
Thank you Roger. .
Another little bird
