4 Link Set up
Gentlman;
I have spent the last 3 hours searching for the information that I am about to ask. A little back ground first. Obviously I am new to your forum. I have found it to be a very profesional site and the people are very eger to help and share their knowledge. I have picked up a 65 Mustang Fastback that is just a shell and has a rail chassis. From what I have read and the little knowledge that I have I know that I have aloooooooote of work ahead of me. To get to the question at hand. I have a narowed 9in. that measures 33 1/2in from flang to flang. To the center of the 3 in tubing it is 28in. When I order my rear clip for a 4-link would I order it at 28in wide on the frame rail. The rear end housing as it goes toward the center the housing gets larger. Just a little help would go along way.
Thanks so much for your time and patience.
Sam

What I think you're saying is that you're going to order a bolt-in or weld-in rear frame clip that will incorporate the adjustable front mount brackets for a 4-link and that the manufacturer will locate the brackets laterally anywhere you want them.
If that's the case, why not contact the manufacturer and coordinate with him?PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Now that I've had a few minutes to think about it, I'll try to answer your question.
What I would do is assemble one side with backing plate and allow room for an e-brake cable and/or brake line routing. I'd also make sure that the coilover will have room to function without interfering with brake drum/ rotor/ caliper, whichever you're going to use. In other words, I'd make the mounting points on the housing as wide as possible without any mechanical interference taking place. If this allows you to place the housing brackets on the 3" part of the housing, fine. If not, then tell the manufacturer the o.d. of the housing where the brackets will be placed and the center-center of the brackets so he can coordinate the same spacing on the crossmember for the front mounts.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

4/link
usually a 115in to 108 in wheel base has a 28in wide chasis and 100in to 95in has a 24in wide chasis.
