gear change
Last post is gone so i'll refresh your memory. 55 Belair, 283, 4 speed, 3.55 gear, 26.4" tire. 15 sec @95 in the quarter in 3rd gear at 6200 rpm across the trap. NO Torque off the line almost wanting to die taking off,,,,WILL not spin the tires even on the street. Somebody posted and said try some small tires which looked bad but worked. It spun a little and hooked up on the street so I was off to the track (with the 10.5 cars ha) The 23" tire gave me an equivilent of a 4.0 gear with my taller tire. I did a hell of a burn out and pulled up beside the 70 chevy truck. Got a good light but it was spinning pretty good and had to let out about half throtle. Shifted to second and still felt it spinning so I just nailed it and got up to 7K in second gear moving and spinning, smoking the tires while still ahead of the truck. All of the sudden cludunk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!busted the rear end.........guess i'll have to get a different gear now. Took it apart and worn spider gear shaft caused two spiders to come apart and the one of the main caps on the carrier busted off the housing. I picked up a 3.70 gear from a buddy and its in there now, can't try it out till I get off work in two weeks.
