Hyde Park Flash Back
Hi all, just wanted to see if any old timers have ever heard of a Dragstrip that used to be in Newark,Ohio off state RT 79.it was called Hyde Park.this was back in the 60's my old man said he used to tow his 55 chevy with his 57 chevy using a Tow-Bar to this track to race.He ran his 55 in (C) GAS it had a 327SBL with a 4spd.this track was open to around 1968 as best as i can tell.then a long came Braket Racing I think can any body out there put a deffinate time frame on when Braket Racing first started.NationalTrail Raceway in Hebron Ohio opened shortly after the closeing of Hyde Park.that is the home of the Pontiac Spring Nationals,if you have ever been to a Good Guys car show in COLUMBUS,OH and went out to National Trails on Friday night for the Nastolga Drags you where vary close to where Hyde Park once was.

Hi NTFDAY,where was DAHIO located and what type car did you run, plus what class? I was at Spring Nationals in 2004 Big-Daddy Don Garlets had some old school front engine dragsters among others on display, thay didn't race them but did parade them up the Track.AS I watched this one Hemi powerd front engine dragster go (BOUNCING)by at a slow 10 to 15 MPH trot did I mention this thing was Flexing and (BOUNCING) like it was going to Brake into.if any one reads this that used to race one of these dragsters you have bigger MARBLES than me and thats saying alot because I race DragBike. also not to wild about the idea of the Rear-End housing being right in my Family Jewels.

FIDO, DAHIO was the one paved (at the time) landing strip at the Montgomery County Airport NW of Dayton. I never ran a car there, I flagged the '59 season. I'm not sure what happened to the strip, I left in '61 to join the Marine Corps and haven't been back since.Ken Thomas

Yes,yes. That sounds like 'killer camaro'.Dad and I talked to one of his buddies and they said he wanted to buy a new motor and was trying to blow it up but the motor wouldn't blow! Good ole days of Gas and modified production classes with the tunnel rams or hilborn injectors. So if your dad ran gas class he had to race those anglia's of Rod shop,Jegs,Bob Pig's,etc.,,,boy am I glad they started brackett class.Hey has that thing gotta Heme in it? No, it's a shevy not heme!
Thank you Roger. .
