    lightest

Was wondering what the lightest weight car would be to build and still look sharp. Found a 260Z at the crusher, could prob get for 200 bucks or so. Looked up the weight for that model and its around 2,385 lbs with 4cyl. If stripped down will a small block chevy fit? Ive seen some RX7's at the track but there around 2,685lbs.

Hard to get any rod much under 1700 or 1800 lbs. California used to have (maybe still does) a 1500 lb law, that if your car weighed under 1500 you needed no fenders. Lots of guys attempted to get their hot rods that light to meet the law, but the ones that usually made it sported engines like aluminum 215 CI Buicks and various 4 cylinder power plants.

You figure, a sbc goes at about 550, turbo 350 is another 125 (maybe) add wheels tires, frame, body, steering, seats, gas tank, rear axle, front end, springs, etc. and you are right up there. My '27 weighs right at 2000 with a 302 Ford and stick setup, and that is a really stripped down car.

For about ~$200k we could consider an all titanium frame, rear end housing, and suspension structural members. With an all aluminum structure engine we could get her down there. A little heavier but far more robust and valuable than Boyd's ALUMIROD. We're talking skinny driver though; you ain't fat like me, right?

I am talkin a cheap 200 dollar body to put a mild 400 small block in. I got two motors and a few trans. 2300 lb 260 Z minus the 4cyl plus the weight of a small block setup. Prob what 2,500 lbs? with a 450 hp motor! Should be a 10 to 11 second car if setup right.

You gonna put some sand bags in the front? That thing will surelly do a wheel stand off the line with the motor in the back...will the front end come back down?

    v/8 "Z"

There are many Z's with Chevys in them. I've seen them run at Pomona.
Makes for a fast street car. I have a 76 I've had for yrs. They were inline
overhead cam originally [6 cyl].Mine is stock except for lowering springs
and ground effects. For a couple hundred it"s a good start
