    banshee dragster

ive got a banshee quad 2 stroke twin cylinder. with a few mods, hot rod crank, high dome pistons, fmf race exhaust system. its scary fast and now i am thinking of cutting it off in front of the engine, and using the entire back half already to go. and building a caged front section to make a scary fast jr. dragster for my 12 year old son. of course there is not a class for this, but it coiuld be run in a test and tune session, what an interesting toy!

you could run it at a quad drag race. in our town there is a guy who runs a banshee with a custom extended front end in the drags and is really competitive. the quad is about 12' long now with the extended frame.

I suspect you'll encounter a little trouble getting a 12 year old through tech inspection with a car that has the capability to go that fast. As soon as he's 16 and has a driver's license there would be no problem.

Sounds like a fun ride and a cool father/son project, but an NHRA track won't (or, shouldn't) let him run w/ that, unless it meets Jr. Comp rules.

BTW my daughters race Jr. Dragsters and IMO 8.90 ET and 85 mph in the eighth mile is plenty fast for my 12 year old kid.

    test and tune

it is only in the pencil and paper stage right now. he will be 14 when it is done and there is no class for this type car, it will be a test and tune bi run only car, as an experimental car at an IHRA track. about 25 friends and i also rent the track a few times a year for a closed to the public practice session. i know he can run it then, we will gradually ramp into it to begin with. he has nerves of steel and also knows his limitations. it will not be his first day going fast by any means. he had his first dirt kart clipping along 40 mph at age 7, jumped his motorcycle 35 feet at age 9, climbed his first 50 foot cliff at age 9, and has a quarter pipe in the driveway. he is a huge adrenaline junky just like me. and if not it will be fun building it anyway.

    new clip

fresh off the jig. front clip for the banshee dragster project. plans are to remove steering stem and the front a arms from the quad, reattach the front end assymbly to dragster front. incorperate a cage section in between current quad and frame section shown. throw some dirt track tires on the rear and some sand drag skinnies on front. i will have about 200.00 in this mod when done, i will not alter the quad frame. so if it does not work out i can rebuild the quad back. the motor is an .80 over wiseco twin cylinder 350 2 stroke. it has a hot rod crank, twin 38mm mikunis, boost bottle, and a ported head. with a FMF GOLD SERIES race exhaust. throw that in with a 6 speed gearbox with barnett clutches and it is just stupid fast. anyway here is the front clip and motor.

Yeah well, I never claimed to have a firm grasp on sanity anyhow!!!! I think they're a blast!!! Anxious to get a ride on one of the new 1400 Kawasaki crotch rockets next spring. The speed limiter shuts them off at about 185, but I bet they get there in a big rush!!!!
