    Just Wondering

I always wondered how the front wheel drive dragsters keep traction when there racing, ive always thought that the goal has always been to get as much horses to the ground as possible, but it would seem to me that the front tires would loose traction when steering ,i guess it doesnt cause i see all the tuners drag racing, with the slicks on the front, they are getting mighty fast these days too, but for some reason my brain cannot grasp the theory of how this works

Just guessing here I'd say that due to the engine sitting on top of the tires you'd get plenty of traction. They aren't hauling much weight so the ratio of weight to hp along with a yurbo or two they should be fast. This is just a guess thou.

They also run a really long "wheelie bar", that hits when the front starts to rise. I can only guess it is to keep more load on the front ires, not allowing them to transfer weight to the rear.

thats why the real fast imports are rwd.. they also run massive slicks on the front and they have no weight in the rear...
btw im not into them just have played with a few...

I've been underneath a few doing inspections and installing (ahem...custom mandrel-bent) exhausts. Some have torque arms that actually help to resist the forward Gs and actually transfer weight forward.

But like Chevyboy said, the quickest ones are RWD.

There are also lots of extremely quick AWD cars. Watch out for the guys who install larger turbos and nitrous on the AWD STIs and Eclipses. They can launch hard with no wheelspin. Impressive.
