Top Fuel Boat!!!!!!
I had a chance to meet one of the crew .He said they had the record for speed. After looking at the video I notice it runs a trans of some sort. Do these guys run a trans in the boats, I didnt ask? If you look at the video you can see it take off with a small "rooster tail" ,and then it really hits .The "rooster tail" triples in height and size and the boat really starts to move.Talk about having big balls to drive top fuel, this is on the water

It's a planetary trans, like in asphalt racing.
Eddie Hill, the famous Pennzoil sponsored Top Fuel racer was a dominant boat racer, but after he had a particularly nasty crash that almost cost him his vision, switched to cars, to become the first guy in the "fours".
BTW, I have read that the roostertail puts 8 tons of water in the air, during a typical pass.Last edited by HOTRODPAINT; 01-13-2007 at 09:59 AM.

if the track here closes, boats sound awfully tempting!

I've got a friend here in Tucson, who races boats. He has run Pro Gas Hydro, (which is like Pro Stock), blown Alcohol Hydro (He is waiting for a new hull), and currently a Blown Gas Flatbottom, which I did the graphics on. :-)
I was suprised that with a good local dragstrip, and three in Phoenix, he would have chosen asphalt racing, but he is totally commited.....and that is after a couple total-loss crashes. Maybe you have to experience it to know why? The closest track for drag boats is a hundred miles away in Phoenix, but he runs all over the western U.S. I'm not sure if they race in your area, but you probably know that already.
I can tell you there are at least three sanctioning bodies, but I think IHBA is the only one that isn't regional.
