I heard a rumor at the track this weekend that in 08 NHRA may emplement A engine diaper rule for Bracket ET cars,I hope not that things got to hold in A lot of heat. Any body currently running A diaper?have you heard of this rumor yet in your neck of the Woods.I would think for 9.90 and faster, what do yall think.

I think it would be a good idea for any car fast enough to require a cage.

One oil dumpin' in front of the rear tires on the top end would pay for the diaper +.

Seems to me that this pending new rule would not be hard to implement on a V-8 engined car.

But......as an aircooled VW drag racer it's going to be much tougher to comply. Many times we hit the oil sump drain plate during a hard launch. So there's not enough room to just hang an extra pan or diaper under the engine. Also, we would need to seal it "valve cover to valve cover" and anything below the engine will restrict cooling air flow out the bottom of the engine.

I agree with NHRA for the need to speed up their program due to oil downs, but we have not seen a good solution yet for our air cooled cars.

Instead of diapers, why not a "chassis oil pan?"

Four bolts to install or remove.

I'm guessing it would catch as much or more oil than a diaper.

That's not A bad idea C9, Do you mean some thing like the Super Bikes run.that faring under the engine is not just for lookes and Cooling,If the engine let's go it will hold all the oil that's ok if you don't blow a hole in it.

I really hate it when this subject comes up.

Having already filled one diaper with the innards of my engine going 170mph, I can say without hesitation that I am all for any rule requiring an engine diaper.

As far as it holding in engine heat, I wouldn't worry about it unless your car spends time on the street as well as the track.

We have a few cars that run at our track that made a belly-pan with an absorbant mat secured into the bottom, and it was accepted by our tech department. We are IHRA, but that doesn't matter. It is required for anything running 9.99 and quicker. Personally I don't see what difference ET makes for setting the rule, slower cars use engine oil just like my car does. But that's just my opinion.
