No Bind suspension
I've been thinkin' again...and yes I know that's dangerous.... Did some studying on some of the late model circle burners with the 4 bar rear suspension. Man, they have adjustability us drag racers only dream about!!!! Anyway one of the big differences is that they use "birdcages" and pull bars instead of solid welded brackets.... When they transverse the corners the rear goes from full compression to full extension, as much as 9" with absoloutely no bind....Had to make a couple laps in a buddies car just to get the feel for it... It's wild! Man they hook up on dirt better then a lot of cars do on asphalt.
No idea what it would do on a street or drag car and just wondering what you guys thought... Here's a pic of a bearing mounted birdcage for a 4 bar setup. There is of course a pull bar on the top of the rear end housing---that also has a couple different adjustments on it.... Just thinkin' out loud I guess......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yeah, gonna give it a try someday... With the big upper arm it's going to take a lot of rear end room, but the way the suspension works it might be an even tradeoff....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Well. The pull bar picks the chassis up and the 4-link steers the car through the corner. The left side actually holds that corner up off the coil spring essentially making it a solid suspension. You might think you are driving a fuel altered of the sixties and "wild" might describe that ride too. The USMTS guys have got it figured out. If you get a chance to watch one of their races, don't pass up the chance!

The late model I "test drove" had the same suspension as one of the A-Mods, talked with one of the chassis guys. He gave me a lot of good information on how to "tune" and tame down the reaction of the suspension. With equal length bars and the right rate springs and shocks..... I've watched the late model 4 bar cars on asphalt and the setup is a lot different.... We used to do the rear steer thing on the dirt, too.... sure does do great things for corner entry, though I thought they were a bit too loose on exit.... Still very much in the planning and thinking stage now... I just really like the no bind idea, would seem with the right bars, shocks, springs, and pull bar it would be a very tunable setup for a drag car.....?????? Something to play with, anyway...Been a long time since I had a drag car that was guardrail to guardrail excitement anyhow!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
