I think they will stay with it once the crowd witnesses the competition, and sees that it is just as exciting! By saying it's temporary, it takes some of the "sting" out of the decision.
I found 1/8th mile, and the 1/5 mile midwestern tracks to be great racing, so I don't put as much importance on track length, as most.
In the end, the major performance limiting factors are how much horsepower the tires can apply to the track, and the length of the track. Any lother limits may eventually be overcome, as we have seen with weight, blower speed, ignition timing and fuel percentages that did not slow the cars down for very long.

The first race certainly went off excellent!!!! Huge crowd, great weather, and some very close runs..... Not the ultimate answer, but it will sure work fine till the right combination comes along.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I just watched the rerun of the race at denver and found it just as appealing as before, it would not bother me at all if they leave it this way! It would be better than slowing them down.

I think it made for some closer racing. Seems like alot of the races were decided by a few feet. What NHRA needs right now is to slow the cars down. They need smaller blowers, single mag, smaller fuel pump, more wing, less tire & make the class affordable (as affordable as it can be). 15 car fields won't cut it. Need more competitors- not bigger trailers, corporate banquets pitside & multi car teams. Seems silly to have 25% of the qualified funny cars all under the Force banner.

If you visit the news today, you'll see that GM announced that they were planning to cut back their racing budget. They have already informed some tracks that GM will not be renewing their sponsorship when their current contract expires. NASCAR teams (and NASCAR proper) rely heavily on the manufacturer's $$ influx. The article said that NASCAR, NHRA, and the American LeMans series are the top three sanctioning bodies benefiting from GM's sponsorships.
Sad, but lack of money might slow down the cars plus make NHRA go to 8 car fields.....

If they do something affordable they can increase the fields back to 32
