Video - Trip to the track

Here is a video of my Studebaker and my friend Greg and Chris' LS7 68 Camaro running up at Fernley Raceway Nevada during Hot August Nights. As mentioned in the Street Tires at the track thread, This is a a fun little drag strip about 35 miles East of Reno. It is actually the straight away of a road course with a concrete launch pad. It's real basic, no scoreboards or announcer. Just a place to go run your car. Everything is heads up. You can see in the video that the track visibly runs up hill. It is also at 4400 feet elevation. I figured out how to get launched pretty well. You can see my buddy was having a little tougher time of it with over 500 hp and manual trans! You can hear him pedal it in second gear, that's why I was able to stay ahead for a while before he passed me. On this pass my car actually popped out of high gear due to a less that optimal shifter, but he was going to pass me anyway. My best run was a 14.69 @ 93 mph and his was a 13.78 @ 112. You can tell from the mph that traction was a real limiting factor for Chris.

I am trying to figure out how to imbed the video, but it did not work!

Yup, maybe you have a few more miles on ya now, Pat.... Don't look like you've lost a lot on the RT....Should make the comeback a lot easier!!!!!!

I still think I got a good light if I leave on the right day!!!!! Probably why I stick to building and get somebody else to do the driving!!!!!

I have not been down a race track since 1985. I guess it is like riding a bike? On that run our reaction times were actually very close, my car was just able to leave a little better.

Scooter and Dave, It's defnitely addicting, but I can stop any time I want to!

I know you can, Pat!!!! Same thing I used to say before I went to rehab back in '78 But hey, it's yer story, tell it any way you want!!!!!

PS--as mentioned earlier, Thunder Valley is now IHRA, could look at some nitrous systems for the Stude when you're ordering up the new wheels, slicks, and front runners!!!!!!!!

No Nitrous for me, refilling the bottles must be a pain. In Studebaker tradition I think I should go to a belt driven supercharger! I would have to do something about the 8 inch Ford rear end too....

Actually I just made a list of things I need/want to do to the car and amazingly neither of those things were on it

Nice run!! Pretty exciting to see that beautiful Stude opened up

All about having a fun time... I second Scooter's opinion but it sounds you've been through the addiction/recovery process before

That was fun to watch.........someone we know actually going down the strip instead of someone we don't know. Looked like you were having fun.
