Ok, yeah, it was the same deal as Shepard. The guys name was David Baker, had a speed shop in Clear Lake, Tx. He was doing a shakedown on his new car, just some 60' and 300' stuff. Seems about the 3rd launch, the car felt good so he stayed on it. Got crossed up at the end, turned sideways, slicks bit and he rolled it. No belts on, helmet was in the pits.... Called a friend of mine in Houston this afternoon and got the details that somehow had eluded me!!!! Heck, it was just awhile back, like '81 or something.....

I didn't know Bob Glidden was still around he's got my vote.
King of the 351 Clevelands I'd sure like to learn what he knows
about them. All those little tips come in handy.
I raced big block dodges for years back in the early 80's
and keeped losing cranks because. I was doing what my builder
in Vegas was telling to do.
I ran in to a nephew of Don Garlitts down here in Seffner Florida
where I now live. I asked him to ask Don if he seen him what I was
doing wrong and told him how my bottom end was built back when.
Found out I should not have been using the bearing's my builder was
telling me to use on a Steel Crank.
Ruined many 3,000 doller steel cranks because of what my builder
was telling me. Thats why I now build Fords instead, wish I had all
the stuff back that I ruined because of that builder.
They cost me thousands of dollers. Kurt

Animal Jim was Jim Feurer, I remember him racing a Mercury Zephyr in Pro Stock many years ago. Here is a link to his really cool web site, http://www.animaljimracing.com/

Saw a pic of the new Mustang body mold in the recent Hot Rod Magazine. Looks to be really sleek, although the nose doesnt appear to be as "wedged" as the Cobalts, GXP's or Stratus's. I just wonder if the body in Hot Rod is different than what Cunningham and Enders ran this year....because they certianly did not enjoy a whole lot of success. Pomona in February should be interesting.

I would imagine this year was a lot of R&D time, and also a lot of trial and error getting things sorted out... Hopefully that's all about done and it's approaching go-fast time....

If Glidden is invovled things should work out fine. I, for one, am getting tired of the GM dominance in Pro Stock.

Ford's just coming back, MoPar showed a lot of power this year!!!!! I'm with you Ken, tired of just wondering which Chebbie will win. A bit of competition between the big 3 again certainly can't hurt anything!!!!! Billy Glidden has been a force in IHRA for a number of years, maybe he can be enticed to come over to NHRA.... Been away from it so long, don't know what Bob is up to.....

I don't know the whole story, but I believe he's been "consulting" for a couple of teams the last couple of years or so. His expertise is with Ford and he just couldn't get the desired results and besides he wasn't in total control it appeared to me.

The most memorable Bob Glidden moment for me was when he flipped the car, then as soon as he got out of it he covered up the top of the engine with his jacket to keep all the secrets secret!!!!!
