Was there ............ Bruton is definitely turning drag racing into a circus ....... haven't seen anything so stupid (or dangerous) since watching four gassers go off side by side at Great Meadows, NJ in 1964
Maybe next year we can have top fuelers parachute dropped into the facility ....... no wait .......... a pair of top fuelers trying to jump a line of 30 blazing school buses .......... no wait .......... maybe .....Last edited by Old Coyote; 09-21-2009 at 07:31 AM.

oh well....guess some people dont want to get their moneys worth.
I dont see why it was dangerous at all. There was a wall between them just as if they were side by side and plenty of traction compound down on the left lanes.
All teams were out so it was a add bonus for the fans.

The center wall was in place ......... however there was no wall between the left two cars or the right two cars ........ luckily none of the cars had problems and wandered out of their single lanes
I can't believe that the NHRA allowed this stunt, especially after banning this type of exhibition back in the '70's........... oh wait, I forgot, money overrides all rules

NHRA sold out the professional part of the races for hundred million

Well, there wasn't a wall between the two cars in side by side eliminations all day long, either... But, nevertheless, of course it was a publicity stunt for money!!!!! Crowds are down, participants are down. Maybe next year we won't even see a full field of pro cars in the fuel ranks??? Sounds like Smokelss is pulling out as a sponsor at the end of the year... Probably going to have to see some weird things just to keep the money coming in...
The sell out of NHRA and NASCAR was completed years ago... The big corporate sponsors are the ones with the money, and the money determines how the game is played.... Maybe it's not right, but to win you gotta go fast, to go fast you gotta have money, to have money you gotta have sponsors, then the guys with the money run things.... Heck, maybe it all comes down to Team Schumacher vs. Team Force---then a handful of local racers to make the field....??????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

If you watch the videos it was every bit as safe as the races that had been going on all day in the two left lanes. Did you see how excited the drivers and teams were that got to do it? I thought it was a great spectacal. I would have loved to feel the ground shake and feel the concussion when FOUR fuel cars went off at once. Since he built the track like that, it only makes sense to use it at least once in a while. One of the future uses I see of have dual tracks is to keep the show going in the event of a bad oil down.
Dave it is scary with even Budweiser pulling out. The current economy and the cost of racing may push the sport back into the "Old Days". The popularity of Pro Mod, 10.5 outlaw and that sort of racing is indication of that. Even the dreaded Pinks All-Out is drawing huge participation and crowds.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

the only spectators for pro mod, 10.5, and pinks type racing are people that came with the racers---there are no SPECTATORS
at the so called National races---there are spectators---for all the classes--but the Wednesday night type race---------

Even locally, money is going away..... We've had two of the same sponsors for better then 15 years, they are both done at the end of the season until "times get better"... Which means, we're done.... Probably put a car of my own together and go back to the bracket wars, but that's gonna be it. No more Super Gas, no more freebies and help for some of the local circle burners, no more putting a little money in the pot at a gambler's race on Saturday night 'til "times get better"... The trickle down of the bs economy finally made it to the poverty belt.... Local circle track, been here since the 50's is done, only action in turn 3 this summer has been watch the cows graze on the steep banking.....
Put me down for anything, ANYTHING that will put some money into drag racing and keep the sport going.... Heck, I'll always be a racer!!!!! Even if it's back to one pass on the bypass for $100.00 on a Saturday night.... That's where I started, betcha I'm still pretty good at it!!!!!!!
The economy stinks, non essential spending is obviously the first thing to go. Maybe the Pro cars go back to match racing best out of three at Cowpasture Dragways on Sunday???? Of course, with the lousy track prep and questionable safety program, they'll barely be in the 5's.... But hey, take the rest of the big money out of racing, that's where it's headed.
If Bruton Smith can pull some circus stuff and keep butts in the seats, I hope a dozen more promoters just like him jump up, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

B Smith bought into the Joliet track(there were 2 national nhra races here) instantly one race went away
Charlotte????? What did a spectator ticket cost????We used to leave California, made a stopover race in either Utah or Texas, go to Indy and back for probably less than a family of 4 can go to a race now
we need fewer Bruton Smiths and Roger Penskes, race teams like Force and Shumacker, and get back to the Broadway Bob, CJ Hart, type tracks with the SUNDAY<SUNDAY<SUNDAY ads on radio for the races

I don't like it either, Jerry...... Locally we used to run a full field of cars and all classes, couple times a month the match racers would come in..... Now, we're having a "big weekend" if there's 200 cars..... Maybe it is time for the travelling teams to make a comeback???? Couple of floppers running fives in a best of three match race would sure be better then being there for the last race before the track closes......
Anyway, no I got myself all depressed again..... Think I'll go out to the garage and play with the 'maro.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
