Lady killed at drag race yesterday.
A lady got killed at drag race yesterday.
I heard she got hit by a tire off a dragster.
I guess the dragster lost it and the tire flew in to the stands.
Thats to bad, I am not sure where it happened, I just caught the
tail end of the story. Oh it was at Firebird International Raceway
in Arizona.

Yepper-yrs ago the barriers common place was wooden snow fences.
At a Indy National Top Fuelie FED's rear tire broke and mowed down a number of people killing one.I remember the pics with what looked like a perfect hole in the fence.Looked like it didn't slow down the tire at all.But that is why if you get a pit pass, there is a release you sign and those same releases apply to tickets in the stands.

It's always sad to see someone, anyone involved in the sport we enjoy, get injured or killed.
I'm sure they will make adjustments, as in the past, to get the fan farthur away from the actual action .....
I remember ..... prior to the Atlanta dragway "update" that you stood within feet .... really of the start line. Now they elivated the area & have a concrete wall. Oh well.
RIP.

What a shame!! You know that you take that risk everytime you strap into a car, really a bummer when it happens to a spectator.... Sometimes no matter how many safety precarutions are taken, this sort of stuff just happens......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Sad news. Stuff like this does happen though. When I was in my thirties I was taking an Adult Ed. Woodshop class in night school at the local high school. I used to love to do lathe work, turning bowls, etc.. There was this one guy in the class who always made us nervous around any of the big shop equipment. One night he decided to use the lathe right next to mine. He didn't bolt his chunk of wood on well enough or center it for that matter. He turn the lathe on high speed touched the wood with his chisel, and sent it flying past my head into the wall where it hit with enough force to split the wood into bits, and dent the wall. Our instructor had a little sit down chat with him after that. Point is accidents happen, just never know when your ticket will be pulled.
Still sad to hear someone died at the races." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Sad for the woman, and her family
Can't imagine how poor Antron Brown his family, and crew are feeling about this, would have to be just as tragic I would thinkCustom Powder Coating & Media Blasting

It's a sad story
It is a shame when things go wrong like that, she had come all the way from Wisconsin to Phoenix to attend the event, prayers and thoughts go out to the family. The talking heads from all the local TV stations made this the top of the news headlines, yet no coverage was even given to this event prior to the accident yet they could blab about some golf game being rained on in California,It makes me fume that all that gets reported in motorsports from these vultures is when a tragic event occurs.

As a drag racer myself I know when I strap in to the car anything can happend to me or a fan but it is ashamed to see people get hurt. I think the sport needs to look into a fencing system for the fans.

Nascar seems to have it down, I've seen those cars ride up the fence flipping end over end and not go thru the fence. Maybe they need to ask for help, I hate more regulations but I hope they do something to keep the fans safe from flying debris.

From bits of info she was a crew member of a nostalgic racer so she might of been down track pit area---
A loose rear tire off a fuel car has a lot of energy and will go miles---we broke an axle end off our funnycar (before full floaters) and it hit a steel electrical pole/tower down track and bent it doubled
Most parts go downtrack at the drags and will be impossible to cage/fence so nothing can get into spectator areas--the most vulnerble areas are downtrack side pit areas or return roads
