"Yeah, good slicks will search out the weakest link----with a little playing with air pressure, I would think a pair of 9" slicks would make the car spin some at launch, then haze them a bit through second providing good hook and not murdering the rest of the car.

Maybe next time, Dave. This time I just want to make a few passes without killing myself or the car.

Only a few more days until the Billetproof Drags (Sunday the 23rd) and I am just about ready. I bought a helmet from Summit and I haven't had one on in lots of years, feels really odd. I have been wearing it around the house a little to get used to looking out of the smoked lense, it really is freaking the cats out, they don't know what to make of me.
I took the roadster to a local gas station the other day and filled up with non ethanol 90 octane, and dumped in some 104+ booster. Felt pretty good on the way home, but I found I had a little leak in my radiator, and I didn't want to put any coolant on the strip, so I took it off and went to a radiator shop today with it. No sin on this radiator, it is a custom made one I had the Brassworks build over 20 years ago, and it shakes pretty badly from the rough idle, so it has been patched a few times over the past 20 odd years I have had it. I am going to have PRC make me an aluminum one sometime in the Spring.
While I had the time I pulled the valve covers and readjusted all the valves and fabbed up another return spring for my primary carb. I also got the seatbelt installed and tightened up all the nuts and bolts on the whole car. All I have to do now is reinstall the radiator, grille shell and headlights, and I am pretty much ready for Sunday. Don is going to tow me up to Lakeland, but Dan has to work, so he won't be going.
If it goes ok I will do a YouTube and post it here when I get back. I had a little helper tonight, one of the stray cats we feed has started coming into the shop and has his own towel to take a nap on. He's a cool little guy and if we didn't already have two at home we would adopt him.

I wish you guys could be there too. That is my plan, make a few drives down the strip to get the feel of it and get used to staging, the lights, etc, and get progressively faster each time. I am going to play with tire pressure, last night I went to 30 in the front and 23 in the back, I normally run 28 front and 26 rear.
The Billetproof Drags are just some of the best fun you can imagine........no trophies, no pressure, just a bunch of guys in old cars that normally would never go down a dragstrip having a blast. You end up laughing and smiling so much your cheeks hurt at the end of the day. I'm really excited.

Brings back memories of one of my Maverick's and it's first outing at the strip.... Dad asked me the next day how the car worked, I assured him it came off the line straight and hard-----straight up and a hard left!!!!!!
Have fun Don! check it out a couple easy passes, then STAND ON IT!!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

That is my fear that this might become additctive. We will be sure to do some video and picture taking, not only of my car but others that are there too.
I got my radiator back from the shop today and got it installed, plus the rest of the front end put back together. For all practical purposes I am ready to go. Filled the radiator and ran the car for a while, no leaks. Saturday we pick up the U haul trailer and plan on leaving about 6 am Sunday morning for Lakeland. Races start at about 9 am.
I plan on making a few easy passes, but if I hear the guy in the next lane kick it that devil on my left shoulder might cause me to abort that plan altogether.
