For not being able to hook up, a 12 sec. run is very respectable!
I am with you about not wanting to go faster without some more protection...Scott

More than anything, I am a little PO'd at myself for letting that distributor loose. I could have beaten that Cuda.
I think I have been bitten by the drag racing bug. I spent last night cleaning the block and pistons from the Camaro ex racer I bought a couple of years ago. Don't know what I am going to put it in, but all machine work is done on the block it just needs fresh cam bearings, the head mounting surfaces decked a little, and the cylinders honed to make it usuable. The World Product heads look good, but I'll get them freshened up. It came with an AirGap intake, Holley 750 DP, electric water pump, B&M TH350, some MSD ignition stuff, and roller rockers, so it won't cost a fortune to make a nice little bracket motor out of it.
I would like to put together an old timey Bantam altered, but I do have the 93 Mustang Don just gave me in trade for the 460 stuff. When I told Don I was thinking of putting the Chevy in the Mustang he said "No way, I'll buy you a Ford motor before I see that happen !"

Don,I consider you as a on line friend.Because of that I wouldn't be a very good friend if I urged you(please, please,I mean no offense)to get into a car that you where over your head.I have said that I know I have some 4.0 lights left in me and some 9.90 passes too.BUT I also know that me as a main driver my back given my age would not put up with letting go of a tranny brake and I would be hurting the rest of the week.My RT's are not as good as they once where either,so driving the car as I should way ahead of where I am isn't as good either.I have know guys that made big moves in ET's faster and ended up getting themselves in trouble.Joe Laspata raced RED's for yrs and made a move to a Spitzer alter. From the very first pass he was having issues because that car hit so hard on the leave. He was banging his head on the cage and added foam to it with little relief. He was having a hard time keeping up with the car driving too.So I agree bud, build something you all can have fun with and the hell with what anyone else says.If it is a super light Alter, make it so it is a economy move to save on not much of a engine and then lower the costs of the build.Good Bye

Funny you should mention about hurting after racing your car. I think I gave myself a mild case of whiplash from that heavy helmet and slamming gears. My neck has been a little sore all week after Sunday. Old age sure has a way of letting you know you can't fool around the way you used to and get away with it. If I do build a little drag car I don't care about the et's too much, just so it is consistant. It will definitely have an automatic, it was too hard for me to concentrate on keeping the car straight and shifting. I don't think I glanced at the tach one time all day, I just shifted by instinct.
Charlie, hats off to your 76 year old buddy. I can't see myself doing that in 10 more years.
Don
