Another big time Sponsor bowing out of NHRA
Just read in Dragzine that Castrol won't be sponsoring John Force after the end of the 2014 season!!!! First Ford, now Castrol, John's gonna be scrambling!!!

I saw that too on another board. John F. will have to scramble to find another sponsor(s) with those pockets for sure. I can only imagine the cash it takes to keep that operation going.Last edited by pro70z28; 08-20-2013 at 02:14 PM.
"PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.
"LIVE" your life like you could die tomorrow.

WOW, that's amazing.. after 29 years - I never thought it would be Castrol leaving them, I figured John would retire and then Castrol would walk off. Ford doesn't surprise me, they go in for a term and when it ends they walk off.
And lets face it, the national events haven't been packing the stands in any of the venues. No-one really has the spare cash when you factor in travel expenses plus the gate fees.
But if the stands aren't full, the sponsers won't hang around long either.

It just might be the start of Drag Racing getting back to it's grass roots where deep pockets and truck loads of money doesn't automatically make you the winner. I have read here at different times about the scene over there and how it was good to race what you drove up to the gates in so maybe big bussiness needs to rethink their whole investment. Down here I believe the two or three biggest drag racing events are the Club Champs on the Saturday followed by the Nostalgia Drags on the Sunday, and the Fathers Day Drags in September. At each meeting you race your Hot Rod with the Fathers Day drags having stricter rules about open cars like T Buckets .I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

I would love to see the drags go back to being controlled by the little guys! In my twenties (the '70s) the plan was to be a drag racer! I had lots of skills and motivation, but by then it was becoming evident that a single guy... or even a few combining their talents... could not afford to successfully compete in pro classes. When I realized that racing was becoming a hole you throw money in... with little chance of success... I switched to my painting. No regrets though. It's been a great adventure. :-)
If old-style racing comes back, I'll be there to support them!

There is a form of heads up racing just now in it's infancy, but gaining a lot of momentum!!!!! Ford sells a Coyote sealed crate engine that is the spec powerplant, most guys are running a 5 speed with it.... Been doing some checking into it, not a lot of information out right now concerning all the rules but should be available mid-September...
So, all of you who hate bracket racing (whether or not you have even tried it), here's your chance to get back into it!!!!! Spec engine, diaphragm clutch, 5 speed transmission.... Engine and electronic controls come in under $10k!!!!!
So, you wanna complain about how things are, are do you wanna drag??????
PS---Sunday's final round in bracket 1 was a Nova with a 9.98 dial in against a Mustang with a 10.02 dial in.....BOTH cars did double 00 lights, both cars ran their dial in....The Mustang won by .0003 secs....... tell me more about how bracket racing is boring, ok????Last edited by Dave Severson; 08-20-2013 at 07:06 PM.

Yes that is cool and both doing an 00 lights would of been fantastic. I am hoping to be at our Drag strip in January next year to witness the first side by side 4 second passes with my petrol head Brother who will be over from the UK.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.
