Burnouts
I always thought these old fire burnouts were cool. They probably weren't the safest way in the world to do it; but, I always thought it was cool to watch the car jump through the flames burning its tires off. Especially at night.Sometimes NOW are the "good old days"...

Like I said before, I always thought it was one of the coolest things to see, especially at night, because with all of the fire on the track at one point during the burn out you would actually lose sight of the car and then all of a sudden it would burst through the flames doing its burnout......at least thats the way I remember it. I admit I was pretty young at the time though and things always seem much grander when you're that young.

"This very dangerous crowd pleasing spectacle (the match racing fire burnout) was popular in the late 60's and early 70's but was eventually banned as it proved too dangerous. Coordination between the driver and crew was critical. As the engine was running, a crew member would pour a flammable liquid under the rear tires and then ignite the brew. The driver would hesitate slightly and then burnout (literally) creating volumes of ear splitting noise, fire and smoke. The drag racing fans went nuts!"

Note that it says early 70's but I seem to remember them in like 77 and maybe even as late as 78. Maybe the local track I was at during that time allowed it and didn't put a ban on them at the same time the NHRA did?

Well since I hate most of my neighbor's you guy's are more than welcome to do them right in front of my house in the street because I dont' ban that here. I will be getting some pic's of my doing them on my dirt bike and I will post those, but the car one's are much better. I like to go all out with the gas and make a circle of fire around be and then have the gas on my tire so right when I burn out the gas is inbetween the knob's and shoot's up and out about 30 feet or more. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Give me a couple week's or month's to wear this tire down and I will get some pic's of it at night. I will get some of me doing it in my 3500 Chevy Dually truck too.www.streamlineautocare.com
