That 390 is a good start. Best to stick with one family when you start building fords. Very few parts interchange between them, and your 390 bell housing won't bolt to that windsor.. Still lots of parts around cheap for them 390's. Check ebaymotors for some cheap performance goodies some time. I build stuff cheap too, but it doesn't mean you can't have a quick and well put together machine. A little more searching is involved and don't get cheap with stuff that don't cost much new. Maybe look in some old, big ford cars for a 390 with factory four barrel carb. Good heads are good power and not always costly. Good Luck!
