Texas Thaw 2024
8-9 March we had the annual Texas Thaw event in Witchita Falls Texas at the Witchita Raceway Park. Weather sucked, track got too cold, but we still had a lot of fun. Took my Grandson. The car finished in the car show top ten and he got to pick up the trophy. Enjoy

I remember when that drag strip opened in the mid 70s. I was stationed at Ft Sill in Oklahoma at the time and I took my 71 351 powered Pinto down to race on more than a few occasions. It was an IHRA strip as I recall, and the closest track.
.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

They picked up the event from Northstar in Denton when it closed down. It's always high risk due to the early time of year. They put on a good event though. Witchita falls is probably the baddest ass Hot Rod Community I have run across. Iowa Park, which is where the track currently is, serves as a literal farm for old cars begging to be restored. Given that, these guys make it a 73 and earlier nostalgia event with a little of this and a little of that thrown in. It's always great to get out after winter months and enjoy the regulars as well as to see new rides others have built. We rented an RV in Witchita Falls and they came out and set it up at the track so we didn't have to trailer the car back and forth to motels. That worked great. The weather was pretty tough, a massive front came through with lots of rain Friday. They did not run time trials Friday night like they usually do. It was mid afternoon Saturday before they got it in enough shape to run on. Car show was always fun. Lots of Gassers and early model steel cars there. My Grandson got a kick out of the car show. He enjoyed talking to the spectators that came around. There were quite a few of them.
