Hey Ventura, sorry to hear about your low rpm issues. Get 'em fixed yet? One of the reasons I wanted to go with a GM set-up was to avoid those types of problems, yet as you can see BADFISH went that route and had problems anyways. Mind you it could simply be his too-cool water temps...
I 've installed the engine on the subframe of a donor truck which I purchased 2 months ago. I also cut out the cab section so as to allow me to use it for fitment purposes. 4L80E from PATC c/w Compushift controller is now sitting in the frame as well, feeding an NP241C off've a 94 3/4 ton pick-up. The subframe has had pretty well all the steering/suspension components replaced. Within another 2 weeks, my baby'll be pulling into my garage with a puny 4.3 for tha last time.97' AWD c/w 5" lift

DONE!!!!!!!!!!!
Engine/frame assembly was swapped in last week, started her up on Saturday. Freakin' awesome. The exhaust is a bit louder than I'd hoped for (meaning I didn't wanna hear it at all LOL) which means I get some heads turning in town. But other than that, she runs great.
I'm surprised that she has a lopey idle, I always thought that fuel-inj. motors can't run that much cam. But she doesn't bog or load up, even if she's been idling for 5-10 minutes.
It was a heckofa swap, about 10 times more labour & fabbing intensive that I thought it'd be. I'd never do another one like it, but I'm beaming with pride that I pulled this one off.
Anyone ever wanna do something as stupid as I've done *GRIN*, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions.

another answer to your hunting and too rich problem
I have built two 57's with 502s in them and have had the same problem of hunting and too rich and really lacking in power with both of them. One was a 3 and the last one is a 4 type. What I found on both of them is that the factory tightens the valves WAY too tight. I would suggest you adjust them if you haven't. You will find that you can back them up a full turn and still won't have any clearance. If you do it with the engine running get ready for a big mess of oil on everything. I actually read your post today looking for an answer to another problem that I am having with the type 4. I hope this helps. It will cure it!
Thanks guys! One more trip around the sun completed. Lots of blessings and things to be thankful for (like still being able to type this message!!) Here's to us "over 70 guys.." Glenn
