Chevy luvers help.
Hey you chevy lovers, need a little help to ID my buddy's new old 57 chevy's engine. The serial number behind the alt. is
C7B176448 and the number over the timming chain cover is
acephate. help please thanks.

Man I thought fur sure one of you guys would know this off the top of your head, fooled me. I'm a Ford man my self so I don't know it.

The serial number behind the alt is the pad number, it's a few numbers that should be able to be used for ID purposes, it is also coupled with the matching sequential vin numbers from the car that the engine was pulled from. Look up C7B on a site like http://www.mortec.comYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

According to www.chevymania.com, it's a 1985 305.

Thanks guy's for all your help, sorry it took so long to answer but just got home from work. Thanks Denny I'm gonna give that site a try right now. Your right Streets but I've done alot more stuff with fords then GM, As far as high performance goes But you right
as usual, Streets . Can't think of any thing clever to say right now, I've been up for 30 hours Straight.
76GMC1500 this is defintely a Big block Chevy atleast a 400+.

I know this is a big block chevy but I don't know if we got the right numbers or what? Non of the numbers seem to match up.

C7B176448 Sounds like the date of manufacture code (C7B) followed by the VIN serial number. I don't think its a casting number .
Go to this site and find out where the actual casting number is.

These are the only numbers we could find. But the engine has new paint on it , so maybe the numbers got painted over.
Cheap peice of chevy junk. But it's still no small block, IT IS
