    351 cleveland

is a 351 cleveland v4 out of a 71 mach1 worth much? a friend is restoring a 71 mach1 for a guy and he bought a 71 mach1 parts car that had a 351 cleveland v4 in it. he was going to junk the car with the motor but a friend told him to sell the motor.

the motor is apart and needs a rebuild. any guess what it's worth. i'm going to try to help him sell it.

    thanks for your time

Definately worth saving. They aren't as popular as they once were with the racing crowds but Clevelands were only made for less then 5 years and only available in a few cars. Makes them kinda rare in a way. With the huge surplus of Windsor parts, the clevelands kinda got forgotten...

    thanks.

so it might be easier to just sell the heads so someone can put them on there Windsor. i've met a few people that have done that.

Yeah you could do that. Ok here's the problem... The 4V Cleveland had heads that no small cubed engine could breath efficiently. The ports are so big and flow so much, you'd just about need a supercharger to get any real efficiency out fo them. Now the 2V heads are a bit different. They have more efficient ports that work better witht he smaller cube engines. however, unlike the 4V head, the 2V head has HUGE combustion chambers thus dropping the compression Ratio quite a bit. The 4v chambers are much smaller and are a better design. And Lately the best remedy is the Aussie 351C 2V head whis had the 2V ports but also has combustion chambers just like a 4V head. You could say the Aussie head is the best of both worlds.

I say your cleveland is still worth saving as somebody is always looking for Cleveland stuff or at least a good core for a resto or retro racer. You've got a 4V engine and they are the best of the best. Heck, if you were close to me, I'd even talk a little turkey with ya as I'm considering building a race 351C just to be a little different than the crowd.

Is it a 2 bolt or a 4 bolt main block? The 4 bolt main blocks are more sought after.

thank's for the info. i did a google search on the motor and heads before i posted.
i was talking to a guy a few months ago that had a 351w and he had the cleveland v4 heads. he had a 255 dur@50 cam and i asked what heads he had and what they flowed. he said he didn't know what they flowed but showed me another cleveland head he had sitting around and all i could say was WOW.

the motor was sold for cheep a few days ago to a friend with a mustang.

ps: i asked a friend about the cleveland heads a few months ago and he more or less said the same thing. they flow too much.
