Only in a front wheeler, was lucky and got the pan off without too much problem.. The oil pump is GM's ace in the hole on planned obsolence of these motors!!

I was looking at the pan, but I saw a picture that shows two different oil pump locations. What year model was the one you did? Mine is a 97.
My wife lost the shop manual on it and I can't get another one for a while. Dang pump is cheaper. Looks like a pain to do, awful tight in that little thing. It ain't broke if you can fix it.

It was like a 91 mid size Gm, still had the pump at the back of the pan. I'm not saying it was easy, but do able.

That doesn't seem too bad, 3.5 hours that is. Not too big on working on newer model vehicles. But you gotta do what you gotta do. Wife can't cruise around in gas guzzling Suburban. Looks like there is quite a bit of stuff to take off to get that pan down. Bad weather is going to delay this "little" project till I get back from work the next time.
LT1-S10 I will probably do it the weekend of the 12th, would really appeciate the info you have.
I tell you the worst thing about all this is the dang thing will be paid off next week.It ain't broke if you can fix it.

Simple, something else! I dont know if you have the oil pan delema solved, but i have a few tips. Try raising the front of the car before pulling the pan. that way, the front suspension will drop, making more clearance. 2nd, the stabilizer bar WILL get in the way. If its not too crunchy, think about pulling it. Good luck on that. Those sideways motors are always "Fun"Right engine, Wrong Wheels

Thanks for the tips drg84, i'll check the stabilizer bushings and such in the morning. Does not look like fun at all. Seems like the smaller they are the easier it should be, but that just isn't the case anymore. It will be good training if I ever run into another one similar. It ain't broke if you can fix it.

Just an update. This was a pain. Had to remove motor mounts(1 upper and 2 lower). Lift engine with jack. Hold rear frame up on stands. Remove pass. tire, tie rod, lower ball joint, serp belt, ac comp, starter, and a lot of plastic. Six oil pan to main bolts. And so on. Remove 4 bolts on frame and lower frame as low as possible. Then you can remove the pan thru the passenger side. Takes a whole 10 minutes to install new pump and a day and a half to get to it and put it back together.
The car runs great now. Even the one lifter that has always tapped doesn't anymore.
Hope I don't have to do that again for a while. It ain't broke if you can fix it.

Good to hear you got it jramshu. As for the lifter ticking, that was probably due to lack of oil. Well you were under there, you replaced every seal you could get your hand to-right? Otherwise they will leak in a few thousand miles. Dont ask me why, it just seems to work that way.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

Oh yea ALL new seals. Drove it 500 miles one ways and all over when we got there and back. Runs better than before it seems. It ain't broke if you can fix it.
