Question What can you tell me about this 454?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can buy this 454 block and heads for 100 bucks from a friend. Can you tell me anything more than I already know? Here's what I've got...

    Block casting # 3999289
    72(73?)-79 2 bolt
    Casting date K 24 72
"Hi Perf Pass" on rear of block
"Pass Perf" on front of block

    Head casting # 353049
73-84 Oval, open chamber, 122cc chamber, 255/119cc ports

Bore is just about 4.28", so it looks to be .030" over.

Good block for a mild BBC build?

    Thanks!

Grab it, it's worth more than that if it's not cracked or damaged. Im not into block casting numbers, but check Mortec.com for help if needed...sounds like you have it figured out though. 2 bolt mains are plenty on a big block. And 049 heads are one of the most desireable, they will work great even with the stock valves. That would make a great build up, mild or much more.
