I wish to thank everyone for their input. additional SITREP awareness; this is the 2d rebuild on the motor. the first rebuild self destructed, bent 2 push rods, bent 2 valve stems because the guides were too tight(daa1), 3 cam lobes were flatened, 2-3 wrist pins where too tight (daa2) and a rod bearing ate through the crank. dispite this fu/the engine was dyno'd at 245rwhp/290ftlbtrq. the fuel flow ck'd out, fuel bowls level were adjusted and timing was set to the eng build. i don't believe the eng was dyno'd this time because i wasn't there to sheppard the process. while home on r&r i drove the vette/tried to drive the vette the day it came out of the shop and encountered the listed problems your trying to help me with. now the eng will not go back to this shop. my understanding of everyones input; 1) i will have the vac ck'd with the pcv/brake booster. 2) i'll have the eng setup ck'd by a sbc SME. 3) i'll have other vac possibilities ck'd. based upon the artical submitted by lt1s10, as i understand the artical, it seems that the eng is setup correctly as an open system. i'll have my bud at home run this rabbit down the hole for me. hopefully, when i get home from this sand box my vette will be running and i can go cruising and enjoy the finer things in life that a red vette roadster can attract.....

Have a friend that had a similar problem as yours. His engine would do fine until warmed up and would stop at idle. His problem was the piston clearance was too tight. When the pistons would warm up that would expand and want to start siezing up on the cylinder walls. Forged pistons will tend to do that more than cast. Some pistons manufacturers do require slightly larger bores than others. Not saying this is your problem but the fact that you say the engine feels like it's holding back makes me wonder if you have a clearance problem.

Check the easy stuff first. Double check the timing and make sure the plug wires go to the correct plug. Are any plugs wet after the 5 minute run? Bad plug? Then I'd be checking the stock coil.
Thank you Roger. .
